SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Pearl "Sweetie" Bell, who passed away on December 15, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Pearl Bell was born in Montgomery, Alabama to Estelle Sankey on October 20, 1930; she attended Booker T. Washington High School; she moved to Chicago in the early 1950s and married Emanuel Bell; and

WHEREAS, Pearl Bell worked at the Reed Candy Company and Burlington Coat Factory before becoming a full time caretaker for her granddaughter, "lil angel, Kelli"; and

WHEREAS, Pearl Bell joined Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church in 1976 and was an active and well-loved member on the Ushers Board for many years; she loved her family and was an active leader of the Sankey Family Club, which planned family reunions, picnics, parties, and other events; and

WHEREAS, Pearl Bell was preceded in death by her mother, Estelle Sankey; her sister, Charlie Mae Robinson; and her grandson, Darrin Bell; and

WHEREAS, Pearl Bell is survived by her husband of 65 years, Emanuel; her sons, Cornell, Jerome (Veronica), and Roderick (Denise); her daughter, Elaine (Daniel); her grandchildren, Cornell Jr., Craig (Miown), Corey, Rodderick, Marcus, Sean, Derrick, and Kelli; her great-grandchildren, Jalisa, Janiya, Derrick Jr., Curon, and Darrious; her nieces, Aquanetta (Willie) Street, Gwen (Mike) Pruitt, Kimberly Chillous, Tracey Bell, LaToya Bell, and Rita (Merrill) Chandler; her nephews, Horace (Lill) Burton, Anthony (Carolyn) Burton, Steven Chillous, and Ronald (Yonnie) Anderson; her brother, James Earl (Jackie) Chillous; her special uncle, James (Desiree) Sankey; her in-laws, Edmonia Covington and Harvey and Clettus "CR" Bell; and many friends, other relatives, and her Pleasant Green church family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Pearl "Sweetie" Bell, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Pearl Bell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
