| 1 | | HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Generations of immigrants from every corner of the | 3 | | globe have helped build the economy of Illinois and thus have | 4 | | shaped the unique character of our nation; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Fourteen percent of our State's residents are | 6 | | immigrants, over 1.8 million people; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Immigrant entrepreneurs and small business owners | 8 | | create jobs, pay taxes, and play an important role in our | 9 | | State's economy; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Sara Lee, Kraft, McDonald's, The Boeing Company, | 11 | | and Baxter International are some of the most successful | 12 | | companies in Illinois, founded by immigrants or children of | 13 | | immigrants, and bring in more than $140 billion in annual | 14 | | revenue; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Immigrants have provided the State with unique | 16 | | social and cultural influence, fundamentally enriching the | 17 | | character of our State, and thus of our nation; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Immigrants have been tireless leaders not only in | 19 | | securing their own rights and access to economic, social, and | 20 | | political opportunity, but have also fought to create a fairer |

| 1 | | and more just society for all Americans; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, Despite these countless contributions to our | 3 | | nation, the role of immigrants has frequently been and | 4 | | continues to be overlooked and undervalued; therefore, be it
| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 6 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE | 7 | | CONCURRING HEREIN, that we declare June of 2017 to be | 8 | | "Immigrant Heritage Month" in the State of Illinois; and be it | 9 | | further
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That we express our appreciation for all of the | 11 | | immigrants whose perseverance and resilience have helped make | 12 | | the United States of America a beacon for diversity, | 13 | | inclusivity, and opportunity.
