| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Patrick E. Mahoney of Western Springs, | 4 | | who passed away on March 22, 2015; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney grew up near 60th and Campbell | 6 | | Streets; he was struck by polio before he entered kindergarten | 7 | | and still learned to play table tennis through the Chicago Park | 8 | | District; he graduated from the University of Illinois at | 9 | | Urbana-Champaign; he and his wife, Jeanne, raised their family | 10 | | in Beverly, and later, Western Springs; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney was a personal-injury lawyer; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney was affectionately known as the | 13 | | "Angel of St. Angela's" and volunteered much of his time to | 14 | | help the school, located on the West Side of Chicago; he did | 15 | | everything from substitute teaching, to buying paper and | 16 | | pencils, to fundraising, and even dispensing legal advice; 21 | 17 | | years ago he became President of the St. Angela School Board | 18 | | and many say the school would not be open if it weren't for | 19 | | him; he was also a longtime supporter of Misericordia, a | 20 | | residential facility for people with developmental | 21 | | disabilities, serving as its legal advisor; he also supported | 22 | | St. Francis Xavier University; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney was a polio survivor; he achieved | 2 | | all of his success with an atrophied right arm, which he used | 3 | | for teachable moments at St. Angela's; he always viewed the | 4 | | school as a safe haven for kids; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney enjoyed playing table tennis, | 6 | | pool, basketball, and softball; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney is survived by his wife, Jeanne; | 8 | | his daughters, Maureen Dickinson and Peggy Kennedy; his sons, | 9 | | Tom and Terry; his brother, Timothy; and his 12 grandchildren; | 10 | | therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of | 13 | | Patrick E. Mahoney, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 14 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 15 | | further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Patrick Mahoney as an expression of | 18 | | our deepest sympathy.
