SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2310/2310-637 new

    Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Requires each licensed health care professional who performs a physical examination of a person 19 years of age or younger to include as part of that examination questions that evaluate the person's family history related to various cardiac conditions. Requires the Department to develop a cardiac screening professional development module in consultation with certain health care associations to be determined by the Director. Defines "licensed health care professional".

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and
5Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
6amended by adding Section 2310-637 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2310/2310-637 new)
8    Sec. 2310-637. Required cardiac screening. Each licensed
9health care professional who performs a physical examination of
10a person 19 years of age or younger, whether that examination
11is performed annually or pursuant to the requirements of
12Section 27-8.1 of the School Code, shall include as part of
13that examination questions that evaluate the person's family
14history related to cardiac conditions contained in the current
15version of the Preparticipation Physical Evaluation Form
16developed jointly by the American Academy of Family Physicians,
17American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Sports
18Medicine, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine,
19American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and American
20Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. The Department is
21required to develop a cardiac screening professional
22development module in consultation with certain health care
23associations to be determined by the Director.

1    For the purposes of this Section, "licensed health care
2professional" means a physician licensed to practice medicine
3in all its branches under the Medical Practice Act of 1987, a
4physician assistant under the Physician Assistant Practice Act
5of 1987, or an advanced practice nurse under Article 65 of the
6Nurse Practice Act.
