HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are proud to congratulate the United States Women's National Soccer Team, Team USA, on winning the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup; and

WHEREAS, Team USA defeated Japan in the World Cup Final with a score of 5-2; and

WHEREAS, Team USA player, Carli Lloyd, scored 3 goals, making her the first player to score a hat trick in a Women's World Cup Final; and

WHEREAS, Team USA had 6 wins, no losses, and one tie while scoring 14 goals and only conceding 3 during the 2015 World Cup; and

WHEREAS, This is the third Women's World Cup Championship for Team USA, winning in 1991 and 1999; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives is proud of the strong connection between United States soccer and the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The headquarters of the United States Soccer Federation is located in the U.S. Soccer House at the corner of 18th Street and Prairie Avenue in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Illinois serves as the American home of the world's most popular sport; and

WHEREAS, The head coach for Team USA is Jill Ellis, formerly the head coach for the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Four members of the National Women's Soccer League's Chicago Red Stars, Shannon Boxx, Lori Chalupny, Julie Johnston, and Christenine Press, played for Team USA during the World Cup Finals; and

WHEREAS, Many residents of the State of Illinois, including members of The American Outlaws United States Soccer supporters group chapters in Chicago, Bloomington-Normal, and Springfield traveled to Canada to cheer Team USA in their quest for glory; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Team USA on their outstanding performance in the FIFA Women's World Cup and we honor them for their hard-work and determination and for bringing the World Cup Championship home to the United States; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Team USA as a symbol of our admiration and respect for all they have accomplished and we wish them many more years of continued success on and off the field.
