HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John
4Walsh D'Arcy III, who passed away on August 23, 2016 at the age
5of 90; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III was born in Joliet; his parents
7were Verna and John D'Arcy; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III attended St. Raymond's in Joliet
9and St. Thomas Military Academy in St. Paul before serving in
10the United States Navy as a bombardier during World War II;
11after his honorable discharge, he attended the University of
12St. Thomas in St. Paul; and
 
13    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III was an active member of St. Mary
14Immaculate Catholic Church in Plainfield, where he served on
15various boards supporting the growth of the church and school;
16his voice was familiar to daily communicants as he regularly
17lectured and sang at the morning Masses; he was actively
18involved in and a member of the boards of the Joliet Franciscan
19Sisters and Catholic Charities; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III began his career in banking with
21the Pullman Bank in Chicago, where he was instrumental in

1initiating the Illinois Bank Charge before it was merged into
2the VISA brand; his integrity, drive, and experience caught the
3interest of several Joliet businessmen, who recruited him to
4lead the founding of Heritage Bank and Trust in 1971; he made
5various investments, including in the founding of
6International Games, distributor of the popular card game UNO,
7which enabled him to later realize his true lifelong ambitions
8of driving tractors and farming; after retirement, he purchased
9various farms and operated them with his sons; he also founded
10JJD Enterprises and Caton Farms; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III and his wife actively served the
12communities of Plainfield and Joliet; he was President of the
13Joliet Rotary Club, a Plainfield Village Trustee, a member of
14the Plainfield Library Board, a trustee of the University of
15St. Francis in Joliet, and a longtime benefactor of Lewis
16University in Romeoville; and
 
17    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III was preceded in death by his
18parents; and
 
19    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III is survived by his wife of 67
20years, Margaret Jeanette; his children, Margaret (Jim) Lacey,
21John (Diane), Kevin (Vicky), Terry (Sue), Patrick (Kathy),
22Candace (Tom) Nielsen, Michael (Beverly), and Tom (Sue); his
23grandchildren, Kristen Corcoran, Scott, Mike, and John Lacey,

1Jennifer Ness, John and Ryan D'Arcy, Jim, Brooke, and Andrew
2D'Arcy, Chris, Nick, Harry, and Jack D'Arcy, Beau D'Arcy,
3Bridget Platt, Brendan and Christian Nielsen, Stephanie
4Greene, Lauren Crawford, Jeff and Lucas D'Arcy, and Sean, Lily,
5and Aiden D'Arcy; 16 great-grandchildren; his brother, Edward
6(Barbara) D'Arcy; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be
7it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we, along with his family and friends, celebrate the life and
11countless contributions of John Walsh D'Arcy III; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of John D'Arcy III as an expression of
15our sympathy.
