HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Harvey R. Gold on the occasion of his retirement as the Executive Director of Congregation Beth Shalom; and

WHEREAS, Harvey R. Gold came to Congregation Beth Shalom in July of 1972 from the Niles Township Jewish Congregation in Skokie and B'nai Zion in Chicago; he began working for Congregation Beth Shalom as the Youth Director and as Executive Director and in 1975 became the full-time Executive Director; and

WHEREAS, Harvey R. Gold's accolades include being a guest lecturer of the Erma Lee Ettinger Lecture Series at the North American Association of Synagogue Executives Convention in New Orleans in March of 2003, being honored by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism Midwest Region in March of 2007 for 40 years of service to the conservative movement, and in 2011, he was honored for 40 years of service to Congregation Beth Shalom; and

WHEREAS, Harvey R. Gold is a member and past board member of the North American Association of Synagogue Executives, a member of the Chicago Association of Synagogue Administrators, and a past member of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism Midwest Region Board and Youth Commission; and

WHEREAS, Harvey R. Gold has been an invaluable member of the Congregation Beth Shalom family and has provided assistance to generations of congregants as they celebrated bar mitzvahs, weddings, the birth of children, and as they grieved following the loss of loved ones; and

WHEREAS, Harvey R. Gold has been instrumental in all aspects of synagogue life at Congregation Beth Shalom, including education, services, celebrations, social meetings, and charitable projects, and has done so while keeping his sense of humor and making everyone that walked through the doors feel welcome; and

WHEREAS, Harvey R. Gold is a lifelong Chicagoland resident; he received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Roosevelt University in 1970; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Harvey R. Gold on his retirement as the Executive Director of Congregation Beth Shalom; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Harvey R. Gold as an expression of our esteem and respect.
