1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing
5 Sections 50-5 and 50-15 as follows:
 
6     (60 ILCS 1/50-5)
7     Sec. 50-5. Time of election and terms outside Cook County.
8     (a) Except as provided for Cook County in Section 50-10,
9 and subject to the requirements of the general election law and
10 the referendum provisions in Sections 50-25 and 50-30, at the
11 time of the regular township election provided in the general
12 election law, there shall be elected one township collector.
13 Except as provided in subsection (a) of Section 50-15, the The
14 collector shall hold his or her office for a term of 4 years
15 and until a successor is elected and qualified.
16     (b) At the time of the regular township election provided
17 in the general election law, there shall be elected a township
18 supervisor. The supervisor shall be ex-officio supervisor of
19 general assistance. The supervisor shall hold office for a term
20 of 4 years and until a successor is elected and qualified.
21     (c) At the time of the regular township election provided
22 in the general election law, there shall be elected one
23 township clerk. The clerk shall hold office for a term of 4

1 years and until a successor is elected and qualified.
2     (d) At the time of the regular township election provided
3 in the general election law, there shall be elected by ballot
4 one township or multi-township assessor, as the case may be, in
5 the manner provided in the general election law. Except as
6 provided in subsection (c) of Section 50-15, the The assessor
7 shall hold office for a term of 4 years and until a successor
8 is elected and qualified.

11     Sec. 50-15. Time of entering upon duties.
12     (a) In all counties, the township collectors elected at the
13 township election shall enter upon their duties on January 1
14 next following their election and qualification until after the
15 first election following the effective date of this amendatory
16 Act of the 96th General Assembly.
17     In all counties, the term of the township collector elected
18 at the first election following the effective date of this
19 amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly shall begin on
20 January 1 next following his or her election and shall end on
21 the third Monday of May following the next election.
22 Thereafter, all township collectors shall serve a term of 4
23 years beginning on the third Monday of May following their
24 election.
25     (b) In all counties, township supervisors and township

1 clerks shall enter upon their duties on the third Monday of May
2 following their election.
3     (c) Beginning with elections in 1981 and through the
4 election immediately preceding the effective date of this
5 amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly in all counties,
6 the township and multi-township assessors shall enter upon
7 their duties on January 1 next following their election.
8     In all counties, the term of the assessor or multi-township
9 assessor elected at the first election following the effective
10 date of this amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly shall
11 begin on January 1 next following his or her election and shall
12 end on the third Monday of May following the next election.
13 Thereafter, all assessors or multi-township assessors shall
14 serve a term of 4 years beginning on the third Monday of May
15 following their election.

17     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
18 becoming law.
