| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sergeant | 4 | | Major Florencio Cruz-Santiago, U.S. Army (Ret), who passed | 5 | | away on September 28, 2022; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, SGM Cruz-Santiago served his country gallantly as | 7 | | an infantry soldier for 30 years, including two and a half | 8 | | combat tours in the Republic of Vietnam; he retired honorably | 9 | | with the Combat Infantry Badge, the Drill Instructor Badge, | 10 | | the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service | 11 | | Medals, two Commendations, and multiple overseas ribbons and | 12 | | awards; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, In retirement, SGM Cruz-Santiago focused on his | 14 | | family, traveling to Puerto Rico, Panama, Aurora, Illinois, | 15 | | and Tampa, Florida; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, SGM Cruz-Santiago was an ever-present husband, | 17 | | brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend; he was known | 18 | | for being willing to do anything for someone in need; he was | 19 | | also generous to various churches with his time and resources; | 20 | | and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, SGM Cruz-Santiago's family has asked that he be |

| 1 | | buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., an | 2 | | honor reserved for those who have served the United States | 3 | | with honor; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, SGM Cruz-Santiago is survived by his wife, | 5 | | Carmela; his sons, Reynaldo (Monica) Cruz,
Reinier (Terri) | 6 | | Cruz, and René (Silvia) Cruz; and his grandchildren, Christian | 7 | | (Ashley),
Carissa, and Joshua; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 9 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 10 | | we mourn the passing of Sergeant Major Florencio | 11 | | Cruz-Santiago, U.S. Army (Ret) and extend our sincere | 12 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 13 | | him; and be it further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of SGM Cruz as an expression of our | 16 | | deepest sympathy.
