| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police will celebrate 100 | 3 | | years of service to the State of Illinois on April 1, 2022; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police began as part of the | 5 | | Department of Public Works and Buildings with the appointment | 6 | | of former Kankakee Police Chief John Stack as the agency's | 7 | | first superintendent and the first eight highway patrolmen on | 8 | | April 1, 1922; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police's initial mission was | 10 | | to enforce the road weight laws of the State, patrolling 1,110 | 11 | | miles of newly paved road; the agency used Superintendent John | 12 | | Stack's residence as its original headquarters, and the | 13 | | patrolmen's equipment consisted of surplus World War I | 14 | | uniforms and motorcycles, which included portable scales in | 15 | | their sidecars for weighing trucks to determine overloads; | 16 | | Superintendent Stack held officers to a higher standard than | 17 | | most officers in the State at the time, and this legacy of | 18 | | exemplary ethics and standards has continued to this day; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, From its humble beginnings, the Illinois State | 20 | | Police has grown into 21 patrol districts, eight investigative | 21 | | zones, six operational forensic science laboratories, and five | 22 | | regional crime scene services commands; it is now comprised of |

| 1 | | several divisions, including Academy and Training, Patrol, | 2 | | Criminal Investigation, Forensic Services, Justice Services, | 3 | | Statewide 9-1-1, and Internal Investigation; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, As of 2021, more than 70 troopers of the Illinois | 5 | | State Police have made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their | 6 | | lives in service to the State and its citizens; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The mission of the Illinois State Police is to | 8 | | promote public safety with Integrity, Service, and Pride to | 9 | | improve the quality of life for the citizens of Illinois; over | 10 | | the years, the agency has continued its mission while evolving | | | | 11 | | in law enforcement duties, expectations, responsibilities, | 12 | | training, equipment, technology, and objectives, making it one | 13 | | of the | | | preeminent law enforcement departments; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police is currently helmed by | 15 | | Director Brendan F. Kelly; therefore, be it
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare the month of | 18 | | April 2022 as Illinois State Police Centennial Month in the | 19 | | State of Illinois; and be it further
