| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Fred A. Brown of Moline, who passed | 4 | | away on April 10, 2024; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Fred Brown was born to Odis and Ora (Black) Brown | 6 | | in Beaverton, Alabama on March 30, 1932; he married Cathy | 7 | | Cathelyn in 1952, and they had three children, Veronica, John, | 8 | | and Terry; he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Tilden, New York | 9 | | for two years, and he was honorably discharged in 1954; he then | 10 | | served in the U.S. Army Reserve at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin for | 11 | | six years; he later married Sue McFate and gained two | 12 | | stepchildren, Tim and Tracy; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Fred Brown was a self-made man, first working in | 14 | | Florida at the age of 15; he later worked in Waukegan, Illinois | 15 | | and proceeded to work at the Rock Island Arsenal; he then | 16 | | relocated to Huntsville, Alabama, where he worked on the | 17 | | Apollo Saturn V rocket for two years; he returned to work at | 18 | | the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1987; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Fred Brown was a proud member of Doric Lodge 319 | 20 | | A.F. & A.M. for over 60 years, the Scottish Rite Valley of | 21 | | Moline as a 32nd degree member, the Kaaba Shrine for over 50 | 22 | | years, and East Moline American Legion, Post 227 for 47 years; |

| 1 | | and | 2 | | WHEREAS, Fred Brown loved traveling, gardening, watching | 3 | | NASCAR, and remodeling homes; in retirement, he took pride in | 4 | | placing flags on the graves of late family members and friends | 5 | | who had served their country; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Fred Brown was preceded in death by his parents; | 7 | | his brothers, Billy (Virginia) Brown and John Brown; and his | 8 | | nieces, Jan and Carla Brown; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Fred Brown is survived by his wife, Sue Brown; | 10 | | his children, Veronica (Sylvester) Richardson, John Brown, and | 11 | | Terry (Debbie) Brown; his stepchildren, Tim Retzl and Tracy | 12 | | Retzl; his grandchildren, Joseph Brown, Cody (Catherine) | 13 | | Brown, Zach Retzl, Ty Retzl, Adrian Retzl, Dan (Lisa) | 14 | | Erickson, and Shane (Tiffany) Erickson; his | 15 | | great-grandchildren, Theo and Everett; his brother, Carl | 16 | | (Charlotte) Brown; his sister-in-law, Earline Brown; his | 17 | | niece, Theresa Brown; and his nephews, Rex and Curtis Brown; | 18 | | therefore, be it | 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 21 | | Fred A. Brown and extend our sincere condolences to his | 22 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
