HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Sones de Mexico Ensemble has made extraordinary
3contributions to Illinois' legacy of artistic achievement
4while advancing the growth of musical education and putting a
5spotlight on often overlooked perspectives and musical styles;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Sones de Mexico Ensemble has promoted greater
8appreciation of Mexican folk and traditional music through
9innovative performances and education; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Sones de Mexico Ensemble held its first public
11performance at Taller Mexicano de Grabado in Chicago's
12historic Pilsen neighborhood on April 9, 1994; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Sones de Mexico Ensemble released its first
14album, Que Florezca, comprising of a four-part suite of songs
15based on the elements of air, water, fire, and earth, which
16found common denominators in other ethnic traditions around
17Chicago and encouraged cross-cultural collaborations; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Sones de Mexico Ensemble's subsequent albums,
19Fandango on 18th Street, Esta Tierra es Tuya, Fiesta Mexicana,
20Viva La Revolucion, and 13 B'ak'tun, all broke new ground
21while celebrating history and cultures not frequently

1showcased in popular music; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Sones de Mexico Ensemble's live concerts have
3spanned a range of subgenres and artistic collaborations,
4entertaining and enlightening countless fans; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sones de Mexico Ensemble continues to deliver
6world-class performances, community education, and
7contributions to the recording industry; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we recognize Sones de Mexico Ensemble for its gifts to the
11people of Illinois and the generous imprint it has left on our
12collective cultural history.
