| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Thomas J. Boyle Jr. of Barrington Hills, | 4 | | who was killed June 18, 2012, while working as a security | 5 | | contractor in Afghanistan; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He was born November 13, 1949, in Chicago to the | 7 | | late Thomas and Regina Boyle; he was known as a patriot who | 8 | | loved his country and a person who never stopped trying to | 9 | | assist others; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, He was an United States Marine and 2-tour veteran | 11 | | of Vietnam, who earned the Cross of Gallantry; he served the | 12 | | Chicago Police Department for 30 years; upon retirement, he | 13 | | went on to work for a private detective agency, and then as a | 14 | | security contractor overseas; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, In addition to the time he served in Afghanistan, | 16 | | he also served in Kosovo and Iraq, where he provided security | 17 | | and training in law enforcement; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Locally, he was personally responsible for | 19 | | capturing brothers Tyrone and Larry Strickland, who were later | 20 | | convicted of murdering Wheeling police officer Kenneth Dawson | 21 | | in November of 1985; he also recovered the weapon used in the |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Thomas J. Boyle Jr. is survived by his wife of 35 | 3 | | years, Pauline (nee Hastings); and his son, Ryan (Andrea) | 4 | | Boyle; therefore, be it
| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 6 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 7 | | his family and friends, the passing of Thomas J. Boyle Jr.; and | 8 | | be it further
| 9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 10 | | presented to the family of Thomas J. Boyle Jr. as a symbol of | 11 | | our sincere sympathy.
