| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Master Sergeant Barbara L. Freesen, | 4 | | Illinois State Police (Ret.) of Springfield, who passed away | 5 | | on February 7, 2022; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, M.Sgt. Freesen was born to LeRoy Freesen and | 7 | | Bonnie (Blair) Freesen in Bluffs on September 7, 1955; she | 8 | | received her bachelor's degree from Illinois College, where | 9 | | she lettered in basketball and was captain of the tennis team; | 10 | | she also coached basketball and softball at Shawnee Community | 11 | | College; she graduated as a member of Cadet Class 89 from the | 12 | | Illinois State Police Academy in 1994; she married Bonnie | 13 | | Miller in Springfield on June 7, 2014; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, M.Sgt. Freesen served as a trooper for the | 15 | | Illinois State Police for 26 years, retiring as Master | 16 | | Sergeant #3808; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, M.Sgt. Freesen assisted as a doorkeeper for the | 18 | | Illinois Senate and served on the Springfield City Police | 19 | | Review Commission; she helped with fundraising for the | 20 | | Illinois State Police Museum and was a member of the Heritage | 21 | | Foundation; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, M.Sgt. Freesen was preceded in death by her | 2 | | father; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, M.Sgt. Freesen is survived by her wife, Bonnie; | 4 | | her mother, Bonnie Freesen; her twin sister, Beverly (Kirk) | 5 | | Reeves; her brother, David (Jeannie) Freesen; her sister, | 6 | | Linda (Terry) McFarland; her nieces, Blair, Lauren, Katie, and | 7 | | Erin; her nephews, Luke, Tyler, Kyle, and Connor; her stepson, | 8 | | Paul (Melissa) Frantz; and her four grandchildren; therefore, | 9 | | be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | Master Sergeant Barbara L. Freesen, Illinois State Police | 13 | | (Ret.) and extend our sincere condolences to her family, | 14 | | friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of M.Sgt. Freesen as an expression of | 17 | | our deepest sympathy.
