HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Edward Jung for his
4dedicated work as president of the Chinatown Museum Foundation
5(CMF), a non-profit organization governing the Chinese
6American Museum of Chicago (CAMOC); and
 
7    WHEREAS, Established in 2005, CAMOC is dedicated to the
8advancement of the appreciation of Chinese American culture
9and its contributions as an important part of the American
10fabric; the museum does this through exhibitions, education,
11and research to preserve the past, present, and the future of
12Chinese Americans, primarily in the Midwest; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Edward Jung, born and raised in a
14Chinese-Canadian-American working-class family in Chicago's
15Chinatown neighborhood, has long understood the complex
16dynamics within the evolving Chinese diasporic communities;
17through his vision and leadership, he has been instrumental in
18revitalizing CAMOC and preserving Chinese American heritage
19and history while expanding the public imagination of what it
20means to be Chinese in America; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Edward Jung graduated from St. Therese School in
22Chicago's Chinatown; he earned his Bachelor of Science in

1Marketing from the University of Illinois Chicago and his
2master's degree in project management from the George
3Washington University School of Business; professionally, he
4led global strategic sourcing during his 30-year career at
5Motorola; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Under Edward Jung's leadership, CAMOC has seen
7steady growth in the past seven years, becoming the home of
8vibrant exhibitions and programs that celebrate the diverse
9visions and experiences of being Chinese in America; he
10oversaw the museum as it weathered through the COVID-19
11pandemic, continuing to engage the public through virtual
12programs during shutdowns; he was also instrumental in
13securing the two-million-dollar restricted Jean T. Lee
14Memorial Endowment Fund to ensure CAMOC's continued growth and
15fiscal health; through his guidance, CAMOC has become a
16reliable resource for educators to implement the Teaching
17Equitable Asian American Community History (TEAACH) Act,
18passed by the Illinois General Assembly, that incorporates
19Asian American history in every public K-12 school curriculum
20in Illinois; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Edward Jung remains an active civic leader and
22mentor, giving his time to several local organizations; he is
23currently serving as president of the Chinese American Civic
24Council (CACC), a nonprofit organization established in the

11950s that assists new Chinese immigrants with bilingual
2services and aims to help them navigate new social, cultural,
3and economic landscapes in Chicago; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we recognize Edward Jung on his eight years of service as
7president of the Chinatown Museum Foundation (CMF), and we
8commend his dedication to preserving the heritage and history
9of Midwestern Chinese Americans and his vision of expanding
10the scope of contemporary Chinese American storytelling
11through exhibitions and programs at the Chinese American
12Museum of Chicago (CAMOC); and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
14presented to Edward Jung and the Chinese American Museum of
15Chicago as an expression of our esteem and respect.
