| SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, William "Bill" Sayles Wake passed away on July 24, | 3 |
| 2004 at his home; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Wake was born May 16, 1926 in Galesburg; he | 5 |
| graduated from Galesburg High School in 1943; he enlisted in | 6 |
| the Navy and was stationed at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky; | 7 |
| toward the end of the war, he was transferred to the University | 8 |
| of Michigan, where he earned his MBA degree and met his first | 9 |
| wife, the late Barbara (Bobbie) Wake; they were married on | 10 |
| September 4, 1948 in New York; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, They moved to Elgin and he began his career with | 12 |
| Aurora Eby-Brown; he and a partner bought Eby-Brown in 1957, | 13 |
| and he moved to Aurora to manage the facility; in 1983, he sold | 14 |
| the company to two of his sons, but he remained chairman; he | 15 |
| and Bobbie moved to Geneva in 1993; shortly thereafter, she was | 16 |
| diagnosed with cancer, which the couple jointly battled on and | 17 |
| off until her death in 1999; in 2000, he married Elinor Nuyen | 18 |
| of Aurora, whom he met through their mutual involvement with | 19 |
| the Association for Individual Development, which provides | 20 |
| services for individuals with disabilities; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, He received numerous civic and industry awards; he | 22 |
| served as a board member of Merchants National Bank for several | 23 |
| years; he was deeply involved with Easter Seals and other | 24 |
| organizations serving those with disabilities for most of his | 25 |
| adult life; he was actively involved with various clubs and | 26 |
| organizations; he also enjoyed filming and participating in the | 27 |
| numerous Canadian fishing trips he took with his friends; and
| 28 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Wake will be felt by all who | 29 |
| knew and loved him, especially his wife, Elinor; his two | 30 |
| stepchildren, Carey J. Nuyen and Jonathan B. (Marcela) Nuyen; | 31 |
| his six children; and his grandchildren, Doug (Susan Gomez) |

| WHEREAS, He is also survived by his niece, Judy (Dick) | 7 |
| Hendricks, and his nephews, Terry (Barb) Shirrod and Bob | 8 |
| (Kathy) Wake; he was preceded in death by his parents, Flossie | 9 |
| and William S. Wake; his sister, Barbara Shirrod; and his | 10 |
| brother, Tadd Wake; therefore, be it | 11 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL | 12 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 |
| William "Bill" Sayles Wake and extend our sincerest condolences | 14 |
| to his family and friends; and be it further
| 15 |
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to | 16 |
| the family of Mr. Wake as an expression of our deepest | 17 |
| sympathy.
