| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate have learned with great | 3 |
| sadness that Albert A. Apa of Springfield died on September 21, | 4 |
| 2004; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Apa was born in Chicago on June 5, 1921, the | 6 |
| son of Michael J. and Rose Marie Tenuta Apa; and | 7 |
| WHEREAS, in 1949 Mr. Apa married Betty Jones, she preceded | 8 |
| him in death and, in 1988, Mr. Apa married Diane Atterberry; | 9 |
| and | 10 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Apa served in the U.S. Army during World War | 11 |
| II, he received a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star Medal, a Victory | 12 |
| Medal, and a European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon; | 13 |
| and | 14 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Apa worked for the Chicago Police Department | 15 |
| for 32 years, having achieved the rank of sergeant; he retired | 16 |
| as the Executive Director of the Illinois Law Enforcement | 17 |
| Training and Standards Board in 1992 after 13 years of service; | 18 |
| and | 19 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Apa received the Award of Excellence in Law | 20 |
| Enforcement Training for Lifetime Achievement, he was a member | 21 |
| of the Italian American Police Association and the VFW Post 32, | 22 |
| and he served on the board for the Illinois Criminal Justice | 23 |
| Information Authority and the advisory board of the Federal Law | 24 |
| Enforcement Training Center in Glencoe, Georgia; and | 25 |
| WHEREAS, The death of Albert A. Apa is a great loss to his | 26 |
| family and friends, including his loving wife Diane, his | 27 |
| daughter Candice Sue (Dennis) Enders, his sons Rick (Janet) and | 28 |
| Chad (Teresa) Gooch, his five grandchildren, his sister Grace | 29 |
| Apa, his brother Victor (Marie) Apa, his two nephews, and his |

| many cousins; therefore, be it
| 2 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL | 3 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we express our deep | 4 |
| sorrow at the passing of Albert A. Apa and that we offer our | 5 |
| heartfelt sympathy to his family; and be it further
| 6 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 7 |
| delivered to Mrs. Albert Apa with our sincere condolences.
