| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of
Julia G. Beck Davenport, who passed away | 4 | | on March 7, 2012; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Julia Davenport was born on October 10, 1920, in | 6 | | Pace, Mississippi; her parents were Cleveland and Louise Beck; | 7 | | and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Julia Davenport attended elementary school in | 9 | | East St. Louis; in 1938, she graduated from Lincoln Senior High | 10 | | School; she subsequently furthered her education at Lincoln | 11 | | University in Jefferson City, Missouri, the Logistic | 12 | | Management School at Fort Lee, Virginia, and other management | 13 | | schools; she later studied and received 3 certificates of | 14 | | progress in Christian Education; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Julia Davenport joined Friendship Missionary | 16 | | Baptist Church in 1930; in 1957, she accepted the position of | 17 | | Church Clerk at the church; in that position, she helped the | 18 | | youth and senior citizens with legal matters and training; she | 19 | | served as President of Senior Citizens, where she arranged many | 20 | | trips and dinners; she organized the church's first Vacation | 21 | | Bible School in 1960; she served as Chairperson of the Mortgage | 22 | | Burning of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in 1962, as |

| 1 | | well as the Women's Day, Church Anniversary, Family and Friends | 2 | | Day, Vacation Bible School Picnic Coordinator, and Pastor's | 3 | | Anniversary events; she served as teacher and Assistant | 4 | | Superintendent for the church's Sunday School and represented | 5 | | the Sunday School at National Baptist Congress for many years; | 6 | | she also served as Dean Chairman of the Board of Christian | 7 | | Education and was a member of the Mother's Ministry; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Julia Davenport was employed by the United States | 9 | | government for over 37 years, where she was an Inventory | 10 | | Management Specialist; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Julia Davenport was involved with numerous | 12 | | community organizations, including the Model City Board Member | 13 | | of the National Council of Negro Women, Ethel Scott Section, | 14 | | NAAC, Queen Elizabeth Chapter #16, Order of Eastern Star, | 15 | | Eureka Grand Chapter, Star of Illinois Jurisdiction, Aahmes | 16 | | Court 84, Daughter of Iris, the Elks Club, and the Senior Board | 17 | | Citizen Nutrition Program; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Julia Davenport was preceded in death by her | 19 | | parents; her husband, John Davenport; her siblings; and her | 20 | | stepson and stepdaughter; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Julia Davenport is survived by her daughters, | 22 | | Rowena Davenport (Bennie Sr.) Lewis and Joan Davenport Moore; |

| 1 | | her stepson, John C. (Betty) Davenport, Jr.; her grandchildren, | 2 | | Bennie, Jr., Roderick (Michelle), Dr. Carla Lewis Longley | 3 | | (Ronald), and Ernell Rodgers Thacker (Michael); her 15 | 4 | | great-grandchildren; her 8 great-great-grandchildren; her | 5 | | godson, Judge Milton Wharton; her special niece, Geraldine | 6 | | Owens Jackson; her sister-in-law, Laura Beck; her oldest | 7 | | cousin, Charlotte Dobbins; her daughter-in-law, Eva Davenport; | 8 | | her son-in-law, Jimmie Bradley; and her many nieces, nephews, | 9 | | cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
