HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House wish to congratulate Barbara Tubekis on the occasion of her retirement as executive director of The Volunteer Center in Winnetka; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Tubekis faithfully served as executive director and acted as spokesperson for The Volunteer Center since 1993; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her leadership, Barbara Tubekis displayed the highest standards of personal and professional ethics and dedication; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Tubekis managed and executed community programs to engage residents and service groups of New Trier Township and the northeast metropolitan area of Chicago in service and ongoing volunteer activities; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Tubekis administered volunteer referral and promotion for over 165 non-profit organizations located throughout the north shore and metropolitan areas of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Tubekis referred over 30,000 volunteers through The Volunteer Center, and she further championed volunteerism by shining a light on volunteers in order to further motivate more people to pursue their own personal social justice initiatives; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Tubekis delivered management and training programs to the public, produced communications materials, and ran fundraising and special collaborative events; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Tubekis also served as a commissioner of the Serve Illinois Commission, the governor-appointed, statewide commission for volunteerism and community service, and as a former chair and member of The Volunteer Centers of Illinois and Volunteer Connectors of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Tubekis retired from her position as executive director in August 2023; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Barbara Tubekis on her retirement as executive director of The Volunteer Center in Winnetka, and we thank her for her tireless work to keep our community engaged in volunteerism; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Barbara Tubekis as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
