| SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| were saddened to learn of the death of Judge LaVerne A. Dixon, | 4 |
| who died on August 10, 2004 at the age of 94; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Through his leadership, dedication, and | 6 |
| professionalism, Judge Dixon personified the nobility of | 7 |
| public service; and | 8 |
| WHEREAS, As a life-long resident of Lake County, Judge | 9 |
| Dixon, along with his family, became a vital component of the | 10 |
| community; and | 11 |
| WHEREAS, Judge Dixon was committed to the concept of | 12 |
| education; after his graduation from Lake Forest College, Judge | 13 |
| Dixon served as the principal of Lake Villa Grade School and | 14 |
| then taught social science at Warren Township High School, | 15 |
| where he met his fellow teacher and future wife, Ruth Olsson, | 16 |
| to whom he remained married for 68 years; and | 17 |
| WHEREAS, During the years surrounding World War II, Judge | 18 |
| Dixon served his country as a Special Agent for the Federal | 19 |
| Bureau of Investigation; and | 20 |
| WHEREAS, After graduating from The John Marshall Law School | 21 |
| in Chicago in 1935, Judge Dixon committed himself to the | 22 |
| practice of law; and | 23 |
| WHEREAS, After a successful career in private legal | 24 |
| practice, Judge Dixon turned his attention to service on the | 25 |
| bench; he was elected Probate Judge of Lake County in 1962, he | 26 |
| was elected Judge of the Circuit Court of the 19th Judicial | 27 |
| Circuit in 1964, and he served as Chief Judge of that Court | 28 |
| before his retirement from the bench in 1976; and |

| WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Judge Dixon mentored and | 2 |
| inspired countless legal professionals, public servants, and | 3 |
| members of the community; and | 4 |
| WHEREAS, During his legal career, Judge Dixon served as a | 5 |
| board member and as the first Chairman of the Lake County Water | 6 |
| District and as a board member of the Village of Gurnee and of | 7 |
| the Warren Township High School; additionally, Judge Dixon | 8 |
| contributed significantly to a number of civic and charitable | 9 |
| organizations; and | 10 |
| WHEREAS, Judge Dixon's death is a grievous loss to all who | 11 |
| knew and loved him, particularly his wife, Ruth; his sons and | 12 |
| daughters-in-law John and Sharon Dixon and Lowell and | 13 |
| Mariclaire Dixon; his sister Ethel Quedenfeld; his brother and | 14 |
| sister-in-law, Robert and Jeanne Dixon; and his four | 15 |
| grandchildren and great-grandchild; and | 16 |
| WHEREAS, Honor and duty were his hallmarks, and his every | 17 |
| endeavor was characterized by a commitment to serve his | 18 |
| community, his State, and his fellow man; therefore, be it
| 19 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL | 20 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we express our profound | 21 |
| sorrow at the death of Judge LaVerne A. Dixon, that we join | 22 |
| with his fellow citizens in mourning the loss of this exemplary | 23 |
| public servant, and that, to his bereaved family, we extend our | 24 |
| heartfelt sympathy; and be it further
| 25 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 26 |
| presented to the family of Judge LaVerne A. Dixon along with | 27 |
| our sincerest condolences.
