| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Hugh G. Epperson Jr. of Rock Island, | 4 | | who passed away on October 31, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Hugh Epperson was born in Mercer County on | 6 | | December 8, 1924; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War | 7 | | II, and one of his greatest memories was joining fellow | 8 | | veterans on a Quad Cities Honor Flight; he married Alice | 9 | | DeMartelaere in Rock Island on July 27, 1947; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Hugh Epperson worked for the Rock Island Fire | 11 | | Department and spent 28 years at the Rock Island Arsenal Fire | 12 | | Department, retiring as the assistant chief; after retirement, | 13 | | he worked security and safety as the safety manager at John | 14 | | Deere Davenport Works and then worked part time at Export | 15 | | Packaging (XPAC), until his full retirement; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Hugh Epperson was a member of Masonic Eureka | 17 | | Lodge #69, the Scottish Rite Bodies, Moline American Legion | 18 | | Post #246, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Rock Island, and the | 19 | | Loyal Order of Moose Rock Island; he was a lifelong Chicago | 20 | | Cubs fan; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Hugh Epperson was preceded in death by his |

| 1 | | parents and his brother, Keith Epperson; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Hugh Epperson is survived by his wife, Alice | 3 | | Epperson; his children, Sandra Black, Nancy (Kent) Thomas, and | 4 | | Edward (Tammy) Epperson; eight grandsons; eight | 5 | | great-grandsons; and four great-granddaughters; therefore, be | 6 | | it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Hugh G. Epperson Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his | 10 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 11 | | further
