| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to thank Tom Miller for his decades of | 4 | | dedicated service to the people of Southern Illinois and | 5 | | congratulate him on 45 years on the air; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Tom Miller, WJPF radio personality and native, | 7 | | life-long Southern Illinoisan, has dedicated 45 years of his | 8 | | life to bringing news and entertainment to the people of | 9 | | Southern Illinois; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Tom Miller is the host of the news radio WJPF | 11 | | Morning Newswatch, which broadcasts Monday through Friday from | 12 | | 6:00am to 9:00am; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Tom Miller has lived all of his life in Southern | 14 | | Illinois and began his radio career in his hometown of | 15 | | Harrisburg in 1976, spending much of his early career on the | 16 | | music side of radio; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Since Tom Miller's arrival, WJPF has been awarded | 18 | | Medium Market Station of the Year and Best Public Service | 19 | | Program by the Illinois Broadcasters Association and received | 20 | | the Leaders Among Us Award from the Southern Illinoisan | 21 | | newspaper; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Tom Miller is a former member of the board of | 2 | | trustees of the Bald Knob Cross of Peace and was awarded the | 3 | | Seven Seals Award by the Illinois National Guard for his work | 4 | | on their behalf, their highest civilian award; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Tom Miller also serves as the operations manager | 6 | | of River Radio and its six radio stations; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, When he's not working, Tom Miller spends his time | 8 | | with his girlfriend, Kate, or looking for deer across Southern | 9 | | Illinois with his dog, Geddy Lee; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, Tom Miller has steadily dedicated himself to the | 11 | | betterment of the lives and communities of all of Southern | 12 | | Illinois and has established himself as a trusted voice and | 13 | | interviewer; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Tom Miller has hosted politicians, sports | 15 | | figures, rock and roll legends, community leaders, medical | 16 | | professionals, and members of every other profession in | 17 | | between as the anchor of WJPF Radio's Morning Newswatch | 18 | | program; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, We can say without a doubt that because of his | 20 | | years of service and his unmatched on-air persona, Tom Miller |

| 1 | | has established himself now and forever as Southern Illinois' | 2 | | true radio news anchorman; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Throughout the wave of thanks and appreciation | 4 | | and congratulations from the people of Southern Illinois and | 5 | | beyond marking this momentous occasion and achievement, Tom | 6 | | Miller is famous for saying, "It's not about me."; therefore, | 7 | | be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 9 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 10 | | we take this moment to truly make it all about Tom Miller and | 11 | | thank him for his decades of dedicated service to the people | 12 | | and communities of Southern Illinois as he has been a strong | 13 | | and steady voice guiding the region through good times and | 14 | | bad; and be it further | 15 | | RESOLVED, That we congratulate Tom Miller on the 45th | 16 | | anniversary of his on-air broadcasting; and be it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to Tom Miller and River Radio as a token of our | 19 | | esteem and appreciation.
