| SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Members of the Illinois Senate will miss their | 3 |
| colleague, Senator Dave Sullivan; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Senator Sullivan has served his constituents in | 5 |
| the northwest suburbs faithfully since he was appointed in | 6 |
| 1998; he won elections in 2000 and 2002; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Senator Sullivan was the architect and negotiator | 8 |
| of the historic Telecommunications Article rewrite of 2001 and | 9 |
| as a result of the changes in law, Illinois consumers have | 10 |
| saved more than $500 million; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Senator Sullivan has been a strong advocate for | 12 |
| children's health-care issues; he was the lead sponsor of the | 13 |
| law requiring additional instruction about the dangers of | 14 |
| steroid abuse for student athletes enrolled in Illinois | 15 |
| schools; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Throughout Senator Sullivan's legislative career, | 17 |
| he has been a strong supporter of Illinois veterans; he was the | 18 |
| chief sponsor of comprehensive legislation providing deployed | 19 |
| armed services members and their families with some additional | 20 |
| common-sense financial protections in recognition of their | 21 |
| service to Illinois and to the country as a whole; and
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, As a legislator, Senator Sullivan has made several | 23 |
| noteworthy contributions, including sponsoring a law allowing | 24 |
| Maryville Academy kids to participate in summer education | 25 |
| programs; and
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, Senator Sullivan led the charge to commission a | 27 |
| study on the impact that expansion at O'Hare International | 28 |
| Airport would have on communities around the airport; based on | 29 |
| the information contained in that study, he was able to |

| successfully negotiate certain financial considerations for | 2 |
| the school districts that would be affected by expansion at | 3 |
| O'Hare; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Senator Sullivan was one of the first freshman | 5 |
| lawmakers to haze another freshman lawmaker; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Senator Sullivan is the founding member of the | 7 |
| infamous "Sullivan Caucus", which seeks to promote the best of | 8 |
| Irish culture - eating and drinking; he is the entire | 9 |
| Republican delegation on the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago | 10 |
| Board of Directors; even Martha Stewart cannot rival Dave | 11 |
| Sullivan in the fine art of incorporating green ties into every | 12 |
| shirt and sport coat combination in the Senator's wardrobe; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, A long, long time ago, Senator Sullivan was named | 14 |
| to Crain's Chicago Business' "Forty Under Forty" list; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Senator Sullivan is a member of the Lattof YMCA | 16 |
| Board of Directors, the Park Ridge Kiwanis, the Children's | 17 |
| Advocacy Center of Northwest Cook County Board of Directors, | 18 |
| the Center of Concern Advisory Board, Avenues of Independence | 19 |
| Board of Directors, Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago Board of | 20 |
| Directors, Amate House Board of Directors, the Advocate | 21 |
| Lutheran General Hospital Board, the National Conference of | 22 |
| State Legislators (NCSL) Communication, Technology, and | 23 |
| Interstate Commerce Committee, the NCSL Energy and Electric | 24 |
| Utilities Committee, and the Maine Township Regular Republican | 25 |
| Organization; and
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, Senator Sullivan has received awards and | 27 |
| recognition from many different organizations, including | 28 |
| Action for Children, the Illinois Farm Bureau, Mount Prospect | 29 |
| Park District, the Illinois Coalition for Competitive | 30 |
| Telecommunications, the Association of Chiefs of Police, AARP, | 31 |
| the Northwest Special Recreation Association, Lutheran General |

| WHEREAS, Senator Sullivan is a dedicated husband and father | 10 |
| to his lovely wife, Dru, and four wonderful children, Brendan, | 11 |
| Shannon, Michael, and Erin; his commitment and love for his | 12 |
| family has earned him the respect and admiration of his | 13 |
| colleagues; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, He graduated with a bachelor's degree in political | 15 |
| science from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; he | 16 |
| is proud to see his two oldest children enrolled in classes at | 17 |
| his alma mater and even more proud to see that they are not | 18 |
| following too closely in his footsteps; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Being the youngest of eight children, Senator | 20 |
| Sullivan learned not only patience, but also the fine art of | 21 |
| compromise; he has always made it a point to be kind and | 22 |
| courteous to the people around him and he has always | 23 |
| appreciated the work people do for him; and
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, Senator Sullivan is a committed Catholic; he is a | 25 |
| member of St. Paul of the Cross Church in Park Ridge; and
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, Senator Dave Sullivan is respected by his | 27 |
| colleagues from both political parties for his honesty, | 28 |
| integrity, and good-natured sense of humor; he will be | 29 |
| remembered as a Senator who took his responsibility as an | 30 |
| advocate for his district seriously; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 2 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that that we recognize Dave | 3 |
| Sullivan for his many accomplishments as he leaves the Illinois | 4 |
| Senate and that we wish him well in all future endeavors; and | 5 |
| be it further
| 6 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 7 |
| presented to Dave Sullivan to honor him for his years of | 8 |
| service to the citizens of Illinois.
