| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Roy T. Schmidt of Lewistown, who | 4 | | passed away on June 27, 2023; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt was born to Ray F. and Mary (Hickman) | 6 | | Schmidt in Canton on June 19, 1947; he married Linda Oatman at | 7 | | Locust Lane United Methodist Church in rural Canton on January | 8 | | 24, 1969; he served as a helicopter gunner in the U.S. Army | 9 | | during the Vietnam War; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt retired from Caterpillar, Inc. after | 11 | | 45 years; he previously served as a part-time police officer | 12 | | for the City of Lewistown; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt served as a master instructor for the | 14 | | Illinois Department of Natural Resources' Hunter Safety | 15 | | Program for 40 years; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt was a member of the Lewistown United | 17 | | Methodist Church, UAW Local 974, Lewistown American Legion | 18 | | Bishop Post 1, and Pheasants Forever; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt enjoyed hunting; he also enjoyed | 20 | | mowing, and he volunteered to mow at the City Kids Camp in |

| 1 | | rural Lewistown; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt was preceded in death by his parents | 3 | | and one brother; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt is survived by his wife of 54 years, | 5 | | Linda; his children, Christina (Jay) Heckart and Jacob | 6 | | Schmidt; and his sister, Janet Weber; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Roy T. Schmidt and extend our sincere condolences to his | 10 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 11 | | further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Roy Schmidt as an expression of our | 14 | | deepest sympathy.
