| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to honor Julie E. Hamos, former Director | 4 | | of the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services | 5 | | (DHFS), on her distinguished career in public service; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, In April of 2010, Director Hamos was appointed to | 7 | | oversee DHFS, a $19.5 billion State agency responsible for | 8 | | providing healthcare coverage for adults and children and for | 9 | | providing child support services; she oversaw the expansion of | 10 | | managed medical care and the expansion of healthcare coverage | 11 | | under President Obama's Affordable Care Act; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, From 1999 to 2010, Director Hamos served as State | 13 | | Representative of the 18th District; during her tenure in the | 14 | | General Assembly, she spearheaded legislation on numerous | 15 | | issues, including healthcare, agriculture, housing, | 16 | | telecommunications, mass transit, and aviation; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Director Hamos served as President of Julie E. | 18 | | Hamos & Associates from 1988 to 2007; she was Director of the | 19 | | Cook County State's Attorney's Office, Child Support Division | 20 | | from 1985 to 1988; Legislative Counsel for the Cook County | 21 | | State's Attorney's Office from 1981 to 1985; Director of | 22 | | Legislation and Political Action for the American Federation of |

| 1 | | State, County, & Municipal Employees from 1979 to 1980; | 2 | | Legislative Attorney for the Legislative Support Center in | 3 | | Springfield from 1976 to 1979; and Staff Attorney for the | 4 | | United States House Ways and Means Committee, Subcommittee on | 5 | | Oversight in Washington, D.C. from 1975 to 1976; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Director Hamos was named a fellow at the Harvard | 7 | | Kennedy School of Government for Senior Executives in State and | 8 | | Local Government in 2004; she has been named a "top legislator" | 9 | | by more than 50 organizations and was one of "25 Women to | 10 | | Watch" in Crain's Chicago Business in 2007; she has received | 11 | | numerous awards, recognitions, and honors throughout her | 12 | | career; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Director Hamos received her Bachelor of Arts from | 14 | | Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in June of 1972, | 15 | | and her Juris Doctor from The National Law Center at George | 16 | | Washington University in Washington, D.C. in June of 1975; she | 17 | | is a licensed attorney in Ohio and Illinois; therefore, be it
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 19 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 20 | | honor Julie E. Hamos, former Director of the Illinois | 21 | | Department of Healthcare and Family Services, on her | 22 | | distinguished career in public service and wish her the best in | 23 | | all her future endeavors; and be it further
