| SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| were saddened to learn of the death of Marge Hartigan of Rogers | 4 |
| Park on June 28, 2003; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Marge was born in New York and raised in | 6 |
| Connecticut; she graduated from Marywood High School in | 7 |
| Evanston after her father was transferred to the Chicago area; | 8 |
| several years later, she and her family returned to the east | 9 |
| coast; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, She met Neil Hartigan, Illinois Appellate Court | 11 |
| judge and former Attorney General, when they were set up on a | 12 |
| blind date, which started off as a bit of surprise when both | 13 |
| spotted each other's striking red hair; a steady relationship | 14 |
| grew as Marge entered Rosemont College in Rosemont, | 15 |
| Pennsylvania, and Neil pursued a law degree at Loyola | 16 |
| University in Chicago; the couple married 1962, a week after | 17 |
| she graduated from college and settled in Rogers Park; and
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Hartigan began her philanthropic work in the | 19 |
| late 1960s with several Chicago organizations; and
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Hartigan held positions on the boards and | 21 |
| executive committees of such groups as the Chicago Community | 22 |
| Trust, which presented her its James Brown Award, the Boys and | 23 |
| Girls Club of Chicago, and the Museum of Science and Industry | 24 |
| president's council; in addition she served on the Field Museum | 25 |
| women's board, the Chicago Children's Museum executive | 26 |
| committee, Lincoln Park Zoological Society women's board; and | 27 |
| she was vice chair of the Jane Addams Juvenile Court | 28 |
| Foundation; and
| 29 |
| WHEREAS, She was co-chairman for fund-raising for | 30 |
| neurobiology with Children's Memorial Hospital; she was on the |

| Cook County-Rush Health Center Board, the Lekotek board of | 2 |
| directors, the National Mental Health Association executive | 3 |
| board, and she served on the Prevention of Child Abuse national | 4 |
| committee; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Hartigan was a member of the Mundelein | 6 |
| College board, the Rosemont College president's council, and | 7 |
| the women's board and executive council of Northwestern | 8 |
| University; from Mundelein, she received the Magnificat Medal | 9 |
| and the Advocacy Leadership Award; and | 10 |
| WHEREAS, President Bill Clinton appointed Mrs. Hartigan to | 11 |
| serve on the advisory committee for the John F. Kennedy Center | 12 |
| for the Performing Arts; she was also on the Chicago Music and | 13 |
| Dance Theatre executive committee, the Chicago Symphony | 14 |
| Orchestra Women's Association board, and John C. Houlsby | 15 |
| Foundation board; and | 16 |
| WHEREAS, In business, she was president of Dunco, a real | 17 |
| estate consulting firm, and was on the board of Dor-O-Matic; | 18 |
| and | 19 |
| WHEREAS, Although she held dozens of key volunteer | 20 |
| positions with Chicago area foundations and organizations, | 21 |
| those who knew her well were more apt to talk about the value | 22 |
| she attached to family and friendships; she considered the | 23 |
| successful lives of her four children as the greatest monument | 24 |
| to her life; and
| 25 |
| WHEREAS, Marge Hartigan's passing will be deeply felt by | 26 |
| many, especially her husband, Neil; her son, John; her | 27 |
| daughters, Elizabeth Connelly, Laura Jenkins, and Bridget | 28 |
| Routh; her mother, Kathleen Dunne; and five grandchildren; | 29 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of | 2 |
| Marge Hartigan along with all who knew and loved her and extend | 3 |
| our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and community; | 4 |
| and be it further
| 5 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 6 |
| presented to the family of Marge Hartigan as an expression of | 7 |
| our respect and esteem.
