| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Gary Lynn Icenogle of Carthage, who | 4 | | passed away on June 1, 2023; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Gary Icenogle was born to William E. Icenogle and | 6 | | Wilma
Jean (Bauser) Curtis in Spring Valley on August 1, 1946; | 7 | | he graduated from Rushville High School in 1965; he enlisted | 8 | | in the U.S. Air Force, where he was a heavy machinery operator | 9 | | and ordinance specialist while stationed at Andersen Air Force | 10 | | Base in Guam during the Vietnam War; he completed his
service | 11 | | at March Air Force Base and was honorably discharged with the | 12 | | rank of sergeant on January 18,
1972; he was baptized and | 13 | | confirmed in his faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural | 14 | | Carthage on
October 21, 1972;
he married Carolyn Kay Huls on | 15 | | May 12, 1973; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Gary Icenogle was employed by the Western | 17 | | Illinois Electric Co-op (WIEC); he furthered his education by | 18 | | earning a degree in heating, air-conditioning, and | 19 | | refrigeration from Southeastern Community College in August | 20 | | 1990; he was also employed in
maintenance at the Bentley | 21 | | Lumber Company, Robert Morris College, Southeastern Community
| 22 | | College, and Memorial Hospital, from which he retired in 2008; | 23 | | and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Gary Icenogle devoted himself as a Boy Scout | 2 | | leader for many years, volunteering as scoutmaster for Troop
| 3 | | 72 of Carthage from 1986 to 1991; under his leadership, | 4 | | approximately 14 young men earned the rank of Eagle Scout; as a | 5 | | result of his efforts, he was awarded Volunteer of the Year by | 6 | | Cub Scout
Pack 39 in 1986, the National Scoutmaster Award of | 7 | | Merit in 1990, the Algonquin District Award of
Merit in 1991, | 8 | | and the Eagle Ridge District Award of Merit for the Saukee Area | 9 | | Council in 1993; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, Gary Icenogle had a passion for fishing and loved | 11 | | the outdoors; he instilled a love for camping, hunting, and
| 12 | | especially fishing in his children and grandchildren; he | 13 | | enjoyed woodworking, leaving behind
many keepsakes; he was | 14 | | very artistic and occasionally painted woodland scenes and | 15 | | refurbished
vintage steel toy trucks; in his later years, he | 16 | | also assembled model airplanes; he enjoyed reading,
| 17 | | particularly Civil War era history; he was fond of raising | 18 | | cattle and tinkering with tractors; he had an undying love for | 19 | | his family that will be felt for many generations to come; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Gary Icenogle was preceded in death by his wife, | 21 | | Carolyn; his parents; and his stepfather, Clyde Curtis; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Gary Icenogle is survived by his son, Steven |

Jennifer Lynn | 2 | | (Christopher) Meeks; his grandchildren, Jessie, Dalton,

"Butch" Icenogle and Dennis (Kate) Icenogle; his | 5 | | sisters, Debra
Bordenkircher, Barbara (Roger) Bailey, and | 6 | | Shelly
(Hank) Petrey; his in-laws, Carla (Kenneth) Crossland, | 7 | | Nancy
Huls, and Lester (Yvonne) Huls; and numerous nieces and | 8 | | nephews; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 | | Gary Lynn Icenogle and extend our sincere condolences to his | 12 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 13 | | further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of Gary Icenogle as an expression of | 16 | | our deepest sympathy.
