| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Ann Shalla of Chicago, who passed away | 4 | | on June 25, 2022 at the age of 84; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ann Shalla was born to Ray Hamill and Donna | 6 | | (Blake) Simpson in New York, New York on April 10, 1938; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Ann Shalla graduated from University High School | 8 | | in Champaign in 1955; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Ann Shalla married Theodore Shalla in 1957 and | 10 | | moved to Chicago, where she had two sons, then divorced and | 11 | | pursued an acting career; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Ann Shalla lived in Franklin Park, Chicago, and | 13 | | Oak Park in Illinois, in South Pasadena, Hollywood, and North | 14 | | Hollywood in California, and in Green Valley, Arizona; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Ann Shalla performed on the television show | 16 | | Matlock; she also won a world record for laughing, a record | 17 | | that stood at four hours and six minutes on the David Frost | 18 | | special; she worked for Actor's Equity in Chicago; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Ann Shalla had a lifelong love for all forms of |

| 1 | | creativity, including acting, comedy, performance, | 2 | | architecture, interior design, sewing, fine arts, music, and | 3 | | cooking; she had an exuberant and friendly personality, | 4 | | leading her to make friends all over the world; she was always | 5 | | the life of the party and was a passionate supporter of women's | 6 | | rights and the rights of marginalized people; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Ann Shalla was preceded in death by her sister, | 8 | | Jean Simpson Sheets; her brother, David Kim Simpson; and her | 9 | | dogs, Kerrie and Marilyn; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, At the time of her passing, Ann Shalla was | 11 | | survived by her sons, Quintin and Kevin (Tory Ferrara); her | 12 | | brothers, Jim (Teri) Simpson, Bob Simpson (Betty Anderson), | 13 | | and Frank (Suzan) Simpson; her grandchildren Luke (Angelina | 14 | | Lucero), William, and Jamie; her nieces and nephews, Kathy | 15 | | Kramer (Suzzy McCafferty), Justin Simpson, Josh Simpson | 16 | | (Natalie Baxter), Larkin (Peter) O'Leary, and Harriet (Ben) | 17 | | Hollingsworth; her former sister-in-law, Kris Simpson; and her | 18 | | dear friends, Sally Havens, Kayri Mealy, Kathy Lamkey, Hal | 19 | | Baim, Pat Benson, and Kay Thompson; therefore, be it
