1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Robert I.
4 Stuart of Aurora on October 19, 2003; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Stuart was born on September 9, 1919 in
6 Waterman, the son of the late Benjamin and Rose (Wittgan)
7 Stuart; and
8 WHEREAS, Mr. Stuart had been an Aurora resident since the
9 age of six; he attended elementary schools on the East side
10 and graduated from East Aurora High School in 1937; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Stuart was a veteran of World War II, having
12 served with the United States Army for two years, ending his
13 tour of duty in Japan; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Stuart was employed in the Kane County
15 Courthouse in Geneva for three years, and then by the Chicago
16 Title & Trust Company for 32 years; after leaving Chicago
17 Title, he became Vice President of Loan Processing at Home
18 Savings and Loan in Aurora, where he remained until his
19 retirement in 1988; and
20 WHEREAS, Mr. Stuart was highly dedicated to his family,
21 as well as an exceptional volunteer who kept very busy in his
22 retirement years with many civic and professional
23 organizations; among them were the Wayside Cross Ministries,
24 American Legion Baseball League, Professional Land Surveyors
25 Examination Board, Fox Valley Park District, Fox Valley
26 Special Recreation Association, and the Optimist Club, among
27 many others; he was tireless in his stewardship activities
28 for the First United Methodist Church of Aurora where he
29 served on many committees and cherished his membership since
30 childhood; and
31 WHEREAS, During his service on the Fox Valley Park

1 District Board from 1974 to 1997, he was nominated by his
2 colleagues to serve several terms as president; and
3 WHEREAS, Mr. Stuart was interested in all sports; he
4 played baseball and basketball in his younger years, and he
5 golfed whenever he could find some spare time; the Stuart
6 Sports Complex in Aurora is named after him; and
7 WHEREAS, Mr. Stuart's passing will be deeply felt by
8 many, especially his wife, Margaret (Dunlop) Stuart who he
9 married on April 10, 1948; his three daughters, Cathy
10 (Robert) Cutter, Pam (Ken) Steil, and Linda (David) Morris;
11 his son, Steven Stuart; his six grandchildren; his ten
12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Stuart was preceded in death by his father;
14 his brothers, Herald (in infancy), George, Charles, and Paul
15 Stuart; his sisters, Joanne Stuart and Florence McEldowney;
16 and his two grandsons; therefore, be it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
19 Robert I. Stuart along with all who knew and loved him and
20 extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and
21 be it further
22 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23 presented to the family of Robert I. Stuart as an expression
24 of our deepest sympathy.
