1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Mary Louise
4 Pearson Higgason of Edinburg on October 19, 2003; and
5 WHEREAS, Mary Higgason was born on October 29, 1921 to
6 Grover Cleveland Pearson and Alice Leona Wilson Pearson in
7 Sharpsburg; she married Martin Scott Higgason on July 4, 1943
8 in the Bride's Chapel of the First Avenue Methodist Church in
9 St. Petersburg, Florida, where her husband was on duty with
10 the Signal Corps attached to the 13th United States Air
11 Force; and
12 WHEREAS, Mary Higgason formerly worked as a Nurse's Aide
13 in Taylorville at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital in the
14 Pediatrics Department; in addition, she and her husband owned
15 Higgason TV & Appliance in Taylorville and Higgason Farms in
16 Edinburg; and
17 WHEREAS, Mary Higgason was a member of the Edinburg First
18 United Methodist Church, the VFW Women's Auxiliary Post 4495,
19 the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Eagles Auxiliary,
20 and the Women of the Moose; she was also a devoted member of
21 the Christian County Democratic Party where she worked hard
22 for the best interests of working men and women, and their
23 families; and
24 WHEREAS, Mary Higgason was a talented woman who loved her
25 family deeply; she loved to cook meals for the farmers in the
26 fields and was highly regarded for her Sunday dinners with
27 family and friends; and
28 WHEREAS, Mary Louise Higgason's passing will be deeply
29 felt by many, especially her children, Grover Lynn Higgason,
30 Karen Sue Popejoy, Carol Jane Higgason, and Douglas Richard
31 Higgason; her grandchildren, Michelle (Steve) Reid, Jody

1 (Carolyn) Higgason, Jon (Tisha) Higgason, Letitia (Seth)
2 Matula, Christian and Luke Higgason, Jennifer (Andy) Paulson,
3 and Breezi and Lacee Higgason; and her great-grandchildren,
4 Kristi Jo Reid, Chad, Drew, and Alec Higgason, Trenton
5 Higgason, Baylen and Callie Paulson, and Aiden Matula; and
6 WHEREAS, Mary was preceded in death by her husband,
7 Martin; one grandchild, Blake Aaron; and one
8 great-grandchild, Bailee; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing
11 of Mary Louise Pearson Higgason along with all who knew and
12 loved her and extend our sincere condolences to her family
13 and friends; and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Mary Louise Pearson Higgason as an
16 expression of our deepest sympathy.
