1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Fred Rakers of Aviston,
4 Harold "Joe" Heinzmann of New Baden, Janice Wiegmann of New
5 Baden, and Bishop Stanley Schlarman, a resident of
6 Belleville, all of whom will be inducted into the Mater Dei
7 Hall of Honor on Saturday, May 10, 2003; and
8 WHEREAS, Mater Dei is a diocesan Catholic High School
9 built on traditions of honor, glory, and love; the school was
10 first opened in September of 1950; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Fred Rakers is a graduate of Mater Dei High
12 School; during school he was a Student Council representative
13 his sophomore through senior years; he was also a member of
14 the Pep Club for three years; he began teaching in the
15 Business Department at Mater Dei in 1968 and continues to
16 teach Consumer Issues and Study Skills, as well as serve as
17 class adviser for the present junior class; he has also
18 served in the Mater Dei Guidance Department for over ten
19 year; he helped students with college preparation and has
20 helped organize fundraising activities; and
21 WHEREAS, Mr. Harold "Joe" Heinzmann has been involved
22 with Mater Dei since his children started attending in 1967,
23 when he and his wife, Verla, enrolled the first of their four
24 children at Mater Dei; he has volunteered his services to the
25 needs of the Mater Dei community for the past 33 years; he
26 continues to be a member of the Fathers and Friends Club and
27 works the Bingo every six weeks; and
28 WHEREAS, Mrs. Janice Wiegmann is a 1968 graduate of Mater
29 Dei High School; her husband is also a Mater Dei alum; they
30 have four children, three of whom are Mater Dei graduates and
31 their youngest, Zachary, is a current freshman; upon
32 graduation from Mater Dei, she recevied her Bachelor of

1 Science in Nursing from St. Xavier College in 1972, her
2 Master of Science in Nursing from St. Louis University in
3 1979, and a Ph.D. in nursing with a minor in Marriage and
4 Family Studies from St. Louis University in 1998; she
5 currently holds a registered nurse license in Illinois and
6 Missouri; and
7 WHEREAS, Bishop Stanley G. Schlarman, former bishop of
8 the Diocese of Dodge City, Kansas, became a religion teacher
9 at Mater Dei High School in August of 1959 while serving as
10 Assistant Pastor at St. George Parish, New Baden; as he
11 continued his pastoral assignments in the parishes of
12 Carlyle, Aviston, Marydale, and St. Rose he served as a
13 teacher, guidance counselor and principal at Mater Dei High
14 School; therefore, be it
15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17 we congratulate Fred Rakers, Harold "Joe" Heinzmann, Janice
18 Wiegmann, and Bishop Stanley Schlarman for their service to
19 Mater Dei High School and on their induction into the Mater
20 Dei Hall of Honor; and be it further
21 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
22 presented to each individual as an expression of our respect
23 and esteem.
