| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of John Virgil "Jack" Fishel Jr. of | 4 | | Arcola, who passed away on January 17, 2023; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jack Fishel was born to John Virgil Fishel, M.D., | 6 | | and Florence Mary (Brown) Fishel in Arcola on January 20, | 7 | | 1938; he graduated from Arcola High School in 1956, where he | 8 | | was named a distinguished alumnus by the Arcola Alumni | 9 | | Association in 2020; he attended the University of Illinois | 10 | | and was in the Army ROTC program until he transferred to | 11 | | Eastern Illinois University, where he earned his bachelor's | 12 | | degree; he married Lynda Kay Warfel in Arcola on December 27, | 13 | | 1958; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Jack Fishel worked for the U.S. Department of | 15 | | Labor until his retirement in 1996 after 30 years of service, | 16 | | and his advocacy and respect for hourly wage earners remained | 17 | | steadfast; following his retirement, he owned and operated | 18 | | Fishel Real Estate for several years; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Jack Fishel served on the Arcola City Council for | 20 | | many years and served as Mayor of Arcola; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Jack Fishel was a member of St. John the Baptist |

| 1 | | Catholic Church in Arcola; he also served on many boards in and | 2 | | around Arcola over the years; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Jack Fishel had many passions; he loved | 4 | | everything to do with Arcola, and he was a massive Arcola High | 5 | | School sports fan who enjoyed cheering on his sons, an | 6 | | eventual son-in-law, and a grandson from the stands; he shared | 7 | | his heart with the Embassy bowling leagues, at Arrol's | 8 | | pharmacy and coffee shops, and with his cribbage and euchre | 9 | | buddies at the Kaskaskia Country Club; he possessed a deep | 10 | | love for Hispanic culture, which was best expressed whenever | 11 | | he watched a Puerta Vallarta sunset beside his wife; he also | 12 | | loved the outdoors and his hunting property in Charleston was | 13 | | his most treasured spot; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Jack Fishel was preceded in death by his parents | 15 | | and his sister, Mary Allington; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Jack Fishel is survived by his wife, Lynda; his | 17 | | children, John Virgil (Loretta) Fishel III, Jeff (Toni) | 18 | | Fishel, Jim (Chris) Fishel, Amy Jo (Bob) Mueller, and Ali | 19 | | (Brett) Keller; his 18 grandchildren; his 13 | 20 | | great-grandchildren; his sister, Carole Renfro; and his eight | 21 | | nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

| 1 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| 2 | | John Virgil "Jack" Fishel Jr. and extend our sincere
| 3 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
| 4 | | him; and be it further
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| 6 | | presented to the family of Jack Fishel as an expression of
our | 7 | | deepest sympathy.
