| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ray C. | 4 | | "Bugs" Smith of Onarga, formerly of Carterville, who passed | 5 | | away on December 1, 2020; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Ray Smith was born in Marion to Ruth Stone on | 7 | | December 17, 1963; he married Lenore Hoeksema in Watseka on | 8 | | October 14, 1999; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Ray Smith worked as a maintenance supervisor for | 10 | | T&D Metal in Watseka; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Along with Glenn and Betty Koets and Pastor Jim | 12 | | Small, Ray Smith helped establish the Garage Community Center | 13 | | in Gilman; he was passionate about the mission of the center, | 14 | | as he wanted to give the youth of the community a safe and fun | 15 | | place to gather; he served as president since it was founded; | 16 | | and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Ray Smith was dedicated to his community and | 18 | | served on the Onarga Library Board, as an election judge, and | 19 | | as a precinct committeeman; he was an active member of the | 20 | | Gilman Old Boys and Girls committee and was the coordinator | 21 | | and master griller at the Hometown Foods cookouts for both the |

| 1 | | Garage Community Center and the Onarga Christian Church, where | 2 | | he was an active member and also served as a Sunday school | 3 | | teacher and worked with the youth group; he was deeply | 4 | | committed to his faith, fun-loving, and an avid Cardinals fan; | 5 | | he will be remembered as someone who brought people together | 6 | | and motivated them to work for the common good; when there was | 7 | | a need, he was the first to say yes, the first to show up, and | 8 | | the last to leave; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Ray Smith was preceded in death by his daughter, | 10 | | Madeline Smith; his mother, Ruth Smith; and his grandparents, | 11 | | Ray and Opal Stone; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Ray Smith is survived by his wife, Lenore; his | 13 | | stepdaughter, Xynora Jackson; his siblings, Bernadine (Dean) | 14 | | Vaughn, Steve (Caroline) Smith, Jeff (Susan) Heesch, Paul | 15 | | (Glennda) Smith, Don (Janet) Smith, Jim (Tammy) Smith, and | 16 | | Kenny (Lisa) Stone; his special aunt, Ruby Ottolini; and | 17 | | several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 19 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 20 | | we mourn the passing of Ray C. "Bugs" Smith and extend our | 21 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 22 | | and loved him; and be it further
