| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Martin | 4 | | "Marty" Ozinga III; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Marty Ozinga began working for his family's | 6 | | business, Ozinga, at the age of 15 as a $1-per-hour laborer in | 7 | | the company's first yard in Evergreen Park; by the age of 18, | 8 | | he was driving a ready-mix concrete truck for union wages | 9 | | while earning a degree in psychology at Calvin College in | 10 | | Grand Rapids, Michigan; he became general manager in 1973 at | 11 | | age 23 and, in 1985, succeeded his father as president of | 12 | | Ozinga; he was married to his wife Ruth for 40 years; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Marty Ozinga led the business through a period of | 14 | | tremendous growth, including expansion in to the downtown | 15 | | Chicago market, where Ozinga supplied concrete for | 16 | | high-profile projects such as the construction of the new | 17 | | Comiskey Park (Guaranteed Rate Field), the renovation of | 18 | | Soldier Field, and the production of more than 250,000 cubic | 19 | | yards of concrete for the Dan Ryan Expressway; in 2012, he | 20 | | handed over the operations of the family business to his six | 21 | | sons and their cousin Jeff, representing the fourth generation | 22 | | of Ozinga ownership; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The Ozinga family has been deeply involved with | 2 | | Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, where Martin | 3 | | Ozinga Jr., father of Marty, was one of the school's founders; | 4 | | the school's Ozinga Chapel was built in 2001 in honor of Martin | 5 | | Ozinga Jr. and his wife; Marty Ozinga served on the college's | 6 | | board of trustees, and he and his wife, Ruth, were co-chairs of | 7 | | the college's capital fundraising campaign; four of their sons | 8 | | attended Trinity Christian; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Marty Ozinga found great joy in volunteering much | 10 | | of his time to Christian organizations; he will especially be | 11 | | remembered for treating co-workers with care and respect and | 12 | | generously giving of his time and resources to causes that | 13 | | helped those less fortunate in local communities and abroad; | 14 | | and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Marty Ozinga was the beloved husband of Melissa | 16 | | (Ogden) Roeda and the late Ruth M. (Gombis) Ozinga; the loving | 17 | | father of Martin IV (Amy), Karl, Justin (Annie), Aaron | 18 | | (Amanda), Paul (Sarah), and Rep. Timothy (Amanda); the | 19 | | cherished grandfather of Martin V, Elyse, Jack, Ezra, Ayanna, | 20 | | Sunniva, Jude, Noah, Carmalee, Mercy, Mikayla, Alivia, Sydney, | 21 | | Gwyneth, Eden, Gavin, Macey, Austin, Isaac, Max, Ruth, Luke, | 22 | | Axel, Willa, Ezekiel, Ava, Aria, Zoe, and Elle; the dearest | 23 | | brother of Beverly Ozinga and the late Kenneth (Judy) Ozinga; | 24 | | the dear brother-in-law of Dr. Leon (Kathryn) Gombis and the |
