HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Beatrice Mensah Tayui for her work in organizing the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus's West African trip to Ghana in January 2023; and

WHEREAS, From January 14, 2023 to January 23, 2023, the eight member delegation visited Accra, Ghana, a prominent African city that is rich in tradition, the homeland of many Illinois residents, the capital of Ghana, and the first African nation to gain independence from colonial rule; and

WHEREAS, Highlights of the trip included meeting with Elizabeth Sackey, the first woman to serve as Mayor of Accra, visiting the U.S. Embassy in Ghana, and meeting with John Kufuor, the former President of Ghana; and

WHEREAS, Beatrice Tayui served as a co-organizer for the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus delegation's trip to Ghana; and

WHEREAS, Beatrice Tayui, originally from Ghana, earned Bachelors of Science in Economics and Business Administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Prior to establishing her own global businesses, Beatrice Tayui held executive leadership positions at several Fortune 500 companies, including Pfizer, Hoffman La Roche, and Johnson & Johnson; and

WHEREAS, Beatrice Tayui is a seasoned chief executive officer (CEO) who has founded and operated several businesses on the international landscape with a focus on oil and gas in Sub-Saharan Africa; she is the founder and CEO of Cybele Energy Global and Cybele Energy Limited, a Ghana-based oil and gas company focused on the exploration and production of oil blocks within West Africa; she is also the founder of the Illinois-based White Oak Technologies, Inc., which has been established to train, certify, place, and mentor young and dynamic African Americans into the corporate technology space; and

WHEREAS, Beatrice Tayui provides mentoring and sponsorship programs for less fortunate children in the Chicagoland community; her passion for education has also led her to actively donate to a polytechnic institution in her native country of Ghana; and

WHEREAS, Beatrice Tayui's business knowledge and distinctive leadership skills have earned her several awards from organizations globally; and

WHEREAS, Beatrice Tayui resides in Flossmoor and is the mother of three children; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Beatrice Mensah Tayui for co-organizing the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus delegation's trip to Ghana in West Africa in January 2023; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Beatrice Tayui as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
