| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Lucius Alfred Copeland of Waukegan, who | 4 | | passed away on August 6, 2016 at the age of 86; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland was born in Waukegan and attended | 6 | | Waukegan schools, graduating from Waukegan Township High | 7 | | School in the Class of 1948; he also attended the University of | 8 | | Illinois and the College of Lake County; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland enjoyed playing sports during his | 10 | | teenage and young adult years; he was a member of the community | 11 | | league softball and basketball teams and played football while | 12 | | serving in the Army; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland was employed at American Motors of | 14 | | Kenosha, Wisconsin and Ameritech of Illinois, where he retired | 15 | | after 23 years of dedicated service; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland attended Shiloh Baptist Church of | 17 | | Waukegan, where he was actively and faithfully involved in the | 18 | | church ministries as a Sunday school teacher, trustee, deacon, | 19 | | financial secretary, and member of the Lake County Jail Mission | 20 | | and music departments; he was a Boy Scout troop Scoutmaster, a | 21 | | coach of Little League football and softball, a member of the |

| 1 | | YMCA South Genesee Branch Board and the Waukegan District #60 | 2 | | School Board, and an Alderman of the City of Waukegan; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland is survived by his wife, | 4 | | Catherine; his children, Torrey Copeland, Tryon (Gabreille) | 5 | | Copeland, and Renee Sharrod; his grandchildren, Sydney, | 6 | | Spencer, Tyson, Steven, Deondra, and Stephanie; his | 7 | | great-grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law; four | 8 | | brothers-in-law; his nieces, nephews, and cousins; six | 9 | | godchildren; his church family; and many friends, including a | 10 | | special friend, Frank Harris; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | 13 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Lucius Alfred | 14 | | Copeland; and be it further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of Lucius Copeland as an expression of | 17 | | our sympathy.
