| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Frank G. "Beaver" Schwartz Jr. of | 4 | | Springfield, who passed away on October 19, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Frank Schwartz Jr. was born in Springfield to | 6 | | Frank and Margaret (Kenner) Schwartz on February 24, 1934; he | 7 | | grew up on South 13th Street and spent most of his free time on | 8 | | the neighborhood baseball diamond; he turned his pitching | 9 | | skills into a full scholarship to the University of Illinois, | 10 | | where he held the earned run average record for over ten years; | 11 | | as a senior, he was awarded the Ma-Wan-Da Award for leadership | 12 | | both on and off of the field; before graduating in 1958, he | 13 | | spent two years playing baseball for the United States Army in | 14 | | Okinawa; he was married to Fran (Fuhrwerk) Schwartz for 57 | 15 | | years; they raised a large family, moved to the country, | 16 | | learned to farm, traveled the world together, and threw | 17 | | legendary parties; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Frank Schwartz Jr. had a long career in the | 19 | | insurance business; he was an agent with New England Life, | 20 | | Connecticut Mutual Life, National Financial Partners, and | 21 | | achieved Emeritus status with MassMutual; his achievements | 22 | | included being Top of the Table with the Million Dollar Round | 23 | | Table and qualifying as a Million Dollar Round Table member for |

| 1 | | 51 continuous years; he loved the insurance business because he | 2 | | could care for his clients like family; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Frank Schwartz Jr. co-founded and served as | 4 | | president of the Springfield Caps in the 1960s; he helped to | 5 | | reactivate the Springfield U of I Alumni Association and served | 6 | | on the U of I Alumni Association Board; in 2016, he was | 7 | | inducted into the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame; he served on | 8 | | the Springfield Diocese Advisory Board, the Advisory Board of | 9 | | the Cilco Gas Company, the Washington Park Children's | 10 | | Playground Fundraising Committee, and the Advisory Board of the | 11 | | Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln; he was a founding | 12 | | member of the St. Patrick's School Board, a member of the | 13 | | American Business Club, the American Legion, and the Sangamo | 14 | | Club; he was an active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, | 15 | | where he served as the self-appointed door greeter; he also | 16 | | served on the St. Agnes Building Committee and was a | 17 | | Eucharistic Minister; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Frank Schwartz Jr. taught his family to enjoy | 19 | | every moment, always save room for dessert, and to never take | 20 | | no for an answer; he was big-hearted, kind, and generous; he | 21 | | never knew a stranger, and he deeply loved his friends; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Frank Schwartz Jr. was preceded in death by his | 23 | | parents; his wife, Fran; and his son, Paul Schwartz; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Frank Schwartz Jr. is survived by his sister, Mary | 2 | | Ann Wood; his sister-in-law, Barbara J. Fuhrwerk; his children, | 3 | | Cathy (John Shafer) Schwartz, Paula (Mike) Ryan, Ann (Nick) | 4 | | Luff, Ed (Renee) Schwartz, and Jean (Chuck) Weiss; his | 5 | | grandchildren, Shelley (Zach) Brown, Katie (Drew) deMarco, | 6 | | Lauren Weiss, Chris (Philicia) Ryan, Andrew Weiss, Danny | 7 | | Schwartz, Elle Ryan, Joey Schwartz, Emma Shafer, and Matthew | 8 | | Weiss; his great-grandchildren, Emma Brown, Carter deMarco, | 9 | | Leo deMarco, Ava Brown, and Henry deMarco; and his companion | 10 | | and friend on many adventures, Nancy Smith; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | Frank G. "Beaver" Schwartz Jr. and extend our sincere | 14 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 15 | | him; and be it further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Frank Schwartz Jr. as an expression | 18 | | of our deepest sympathy.
