| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Raymond | 4 | | Frank "Ray" Goodbody of Waukegan, who passed away on September | 5 | | 6, 2022; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Ray Goodbody was born to Arthur and Florence | 7 | | Goodbody on June 24, 1950; he was a lifelong Waukegan | 8 | | resident; growing up, he worked at the family's flower farm, | 9 | | which supplied flowers to retail shops throughout the Chicago | 10 | | area and also grew vegetables to sell at local farm stands; he | 11 | | attended Glen Flora Elementary School and Daniel Webster | 12 | | Junior High School before graduating from Waukegan Township | 13 | | High School in 1968; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, After high school, Ray Goodbody apprenticed as an | 15 | | auto mechanic through the Chrysler Corporation, eventually | 16 | | becoming a master mechanic with the company; he also attained | 17 | | his Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Ray Goodbody was a member of the International | 19 | | Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Mechanics' | 20 | | Union Local 701, where he was held in high esteem by his fellow | 21 | | Local 701 members and was elected to represent them as a | 22 | | delegate in the Northeastern Illinois Federation of Labor, |

| 1 | | AFL-CIO; as a delegate, he proudly attended many rallies, | 2 | | events, conferences, and state conventions on behalf of his | 3 | | union brothers and sisters, always advocating for their | 4 | | interests and well-being; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, After an on-the-job injury and experiencing | 6 | | dissatisfaction with the benefits process, Ray Goodbody began | 7 | | to study the Illinois Workers' Compensation Act, embarking on | 8 | | efforts to promote change and eventually becoming an informal | 9 | | point person to provide the General Assembly with a labor | 10 | | perspective on the workers' compensation process; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Ray Goodbody served as a deputy voter registrar | 12 | | for Lake County, and he voted in every election; he was a | 13 | | member of both the Illinois Labor History Society and the Zion | 14 | | Benton Moose Lodge; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Ray Goodbody enjoyed both good cuisine and the | 16 | | culinary arts, and he was a winner in a City of Waukegan Rib | 17 | | Cookoff; he loved spending time in his garden, where he grew a | 18 | | variety of vegetables; he often took his crop to the Lake | 19 | | County Fair and won awards several times, including Best of | 20 | | Show; he also loved cars and auto racing, and he could often be | 21 | | found near the starting line at the Route 66 Raceway in Joliet | 22 | | or at the Rockford Speedway; he especially enjoyed the dirt | 23 | | track racing and tractor pulls perennially held at the |

| 1 | | Illinois State Fair; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Ray Goodbody was a natural leader and a friend to | 3 | | all, treating others with patience and compassion; he also had | 4 | | a talent for being able to find adventures anywhere he went; | 5 | | and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Ray Goodbody was preceded in death by his | 7 | | parents, aunts, and uncles; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Ray Goodbody was | 9 | | survived by his partner, Joan Welton; his cousins, George | 10 | | Rasmussen, Ken Rasmussen, and Alice Cameron; and his many | 11 | | friends, colleagues, and acquaintances; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 13 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 14 | | we mourn the passing of Raymond Frank "Ray" Goodbody and | 15 | | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all | 16 | | who knew and loved him; and be it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Ray Goodbody as an expression of our | 19 | | deepest sympathy.
