1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of
3 the State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of
4 Hope Reed Beckwith; and
5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Beckwith was born on December 25, 1921 in
6 Chicago to George and Carrie Downing; she attended McCosh
7 Elementary School and Englewood High School; following her
8 graduation, she pursued courses in business at a local
9 college; and
10 WHEREAS, Mrs. Beckwith was a member of St. Philip
11 Lutheran Church for over 75 years; she was a long-standing
12 member of the Altar Guild and Ladies Auxiliary Society and
13 was committed to service at her church; and
14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Beckwith retired from the State of Illinois
15 when she was 62 years old; she spent her days after
16 retirement with her husband, Madison (Mat) Beckwith; they
17 enjoyed travelling and visiting friends across the country
18 and celebrating good times with family; and
19 WHEREAS, Mrs. Beckwith celebrated her 40th year as a
20 member of The Roaming Eight Social Club and will be
21 remembered as a faithful and fun-loving card player; she was
22 also a member of a Keno club and was a sports enthusiast; and
23 WHEREAS, The passing of Mrs. Beckwith has been deeply
24 felt by many, especially her husband, Mat Beckwith; her
25 sister-in-law, Melvinia; her nieces and nephews, Ernestine,
26 Gerald, Jr., Sylvia, Crystal, George, Gilbert, Hope, and
27 Gina; her great-nieces and great-nephews, George, Jamila,
28 Saidah, Lawrence, Lyonel, Celeste, Tiffany, Leslie, Crysta,
29 Sandy, and Adero; her great-great-nieces, Joe, Nefatarri, and
30 Trinity; and her many, many friends and relatives; therefore,

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we mourn the passing of Hope Reed Beckwith and extend to her
4 friends and family our deepest sympathy; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Hope Reed Beckwith as an
7 expression of our sincere condolences.
