1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of their former
4 colleague, John E. "Jack" Cassidy, Jr. of Peoria on
5 Wednesday, June 25, 2003; and
6 WHEREAS, Mr. Cassidy was born on July 22, 1924, in Peoria
7 to John E. Sr. and Susan Casey Cassidy; he married Helen
8 Fagan on June 25, 1952 in Terre Haute, Indiana; and
9 WHEREAS, Mr. Cassidy valiantly served his country during
10 World War II in the U.S. Navy; he was a graduate of the
11 University of Notre Dame and the University of Illinois Law
12 School; he was a partner at Cassidy and Mueller Law Firm in
13 Peoria; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Cassidy was a member of the Illinois House
15 of Representatives from 1965 to 1969 and was chosen
16 Outstanding Freshman Legislator; he was a member and chairman
17 of the Illinois Crime Commission from 1968 to 1970; and
18 WHEREAS, Mr. Cassidy was a member of the Peoria County
19 Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association; he
20 was a fellow with the American College of Trial Lawyers and
21 the Illinois Bar Foundation; and
22 WHEREAS, Mr. Cassidy was active in his community as a
23 member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Peoria,
24 where he was a former trustee; he was a third degree member
25 of the Knights of Columbus, Spalding Council 427, and fourth
26 degree member of Spalding Assembly 206; and
27 WHEREAS, Mr. Cassidy was a founder and member of St.
28 Patrick Society; he was director of the SLG Cohen Foundation;
29 he served as a trustee of the Peoria Park District from 1957
30 to 1965 and as president of the Association of Park Districts
31 in 1962; and

1 WHEREAS, The passing of John E. "Jack" Cassidy, Jr. has
2 been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Helen (Fagan)
3 Cassidy; his daughters, Katie (and Brian) O'Malley, Casey
4 (and Greg) Bobbitt, Mary (and Brian) Burns, and Colleen (and
5 Jim) Waller; his sons, John III (and Teresa), Tim (and
6 Angie), Drew (and Ellen), Jim (and Karen), and Chris (and
7 Nancie); his sisters, Susie Walsh and Diane Jamison; his
8 brothers, Thomas, Owen (and Becky), and Doug (and Kathy); and
9 his 28 grandchildren; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing
12 of John E. "Jack" Cassidy, Jr., and we extend our deepest
13 sympathy to his friends, family, and all who knew and loved
14 him; and be it further
15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of John E. "Jack" Cassidy, Jr. as an
17 expression of our sincere condolences.
