| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of James Edward "the Duke" Gorman II of | 4 | | Edwardsville, who passed away on May 2, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, James Gorman II was born in Chicago to James and | 6 | | Mae Catherine (Jiracek) Gorman on November 9, 1930; he | 7 | | graduated from Fenwick High School in 1948 and earned his | 8 | | Bachelor of Arts from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa in | 9 | | 1952; he earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of | 10 | | Illinois School of Law in 1955; he was a member of the | 11 | | International Legal Honor Society of Phi Delta Phi and was | 12 | | admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1956; he served with the United | 13 | | States Army Security Agency from 1955 to 1957 and married | 14 | | Beverly Ann Gorman at St. Mary Church in Edwardsville on | 15 | | October 1, 1960; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, In 1959, after two years with the Heyl Royster | 17 | | firm in Peoria, James Gorman II moved to Edwardsville and | 18 | | entered into law practice with Burton Bernard; in 1963, he | 19 | | became a partner with Reed, Armstrong and Gorman; he retired in | 20 | | 2002, and joined the firm of Lucco, Brown and Mudge; he retired | 21 | | again in December of 2015; during his 60 year legal career, he | 22 | | tried over 450 jury trials; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, James Gorman II was a member of the American Bar | 2 | | Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, a former | 3 | | President of the Madison County Bar Association, and a Fellow | 4 | | in the American College of Trial Lawyers; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, James Gorman II's passions included his family, | 6 | | the law, and sailing; he competitively raced his sailboats at | 7 | | Lake Carlyle for four decades; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, James Gorman II was preceded in death by his | 9 | | parents; his sisters, Rosemary Leach and Jean Hughes; and his | 10 | | brothers-in-law, Robert Hughes and Donald Schweinberg; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, James Gorman II is survived by his wife of 55 | 12 | | years, Beverly; his three sisters, Marcella Gorman, Virginia | 13 | | Schweinberg, and Patricia (John) Kruger; his three children and | 14 | | four stepchildren, Ann Elizabeth Gorman, James Edward Gorman | 15 | | III, Mary Ellen Gorman, John Gregory Mudge Jr., Stephen Clark | 16 | | Mudge, Robert Matthew Mudge, and William Anthony Mudge; his | 17 | | seven grandchildren, John Ludwig Mudge, Taylor Lee Mudge, | 18 | | Lauren Bond Mudge, Jacob Bond Mudge, Jamie Gorman Skigen, | 19 | | Willem Gorman Skigen, and Maggie Palmer-Gorman; and his | 20 | | brother-in-law, Chuck Leach; therefore, be it
