| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Jim Ekstrom of West Palm Beach, Florida, | 4 | | who passed away on February 22, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Ekstrom was born in Geneva to Roger and June | 6 | | (Gregor) Ekstrom on October 14, 1954; he grew up in Wasco and | 7 | | attended local schools; he enlisted in the United States Army | 8 | | on July 17, 1972; he volunteered to go to Vietnam, but was | 9 | | assigned to a missile station as a Hercules Fire Control | 10 | | Crewman in Korea for a year; he was honorably discharged on | 11 | | July 16, 1974 but remained in the U.S. Army Reserve for several | 12 | | years; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Jim Ekstrom returned to civilian life and worked | 14 | | locally at several businesses and for the Campton Township; he | 15 | | married Debbie Tanner on March 31, 1985 and they settled in | 16 | | Idaho for a time; later, they moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa; | 17 | | and | 18 | | | 19 | | WHEREAS, Jim Ekstrom entered military service again on | 20 | | October 11, 1990 and fought in Desert Storm during the Gulf | 21 | | War; he returned home to Council Bluffs, Iowa on July 3, 1991; | 22 | | he moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2012 and worked at the | 23 | | VA Hospital; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Jim Ekstrom enjoyed fishing, target shooting, and | 2 | | spending time outdoors; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Jim Ekstrom was preceded in death by his parents; | 4 | | and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Ekstrom is survived by his two daughters, | 6 | | Rebecca Ekstrom and Tara (Jonathan) McCarty; his three | 7 | | grandchildren, Robert Loudon, Gabrielle Loudon, and Maxwell | 8 | | McCarty; his four siblings, Gary (Kris) Ekstrom, Kathy (Bob) | 9 | | Lindsten, Jerry (Debbie) Ekstrom, and Penny Ekstrom; his former | 10 | | wife, Debbie Ekstrom; his two aunts, Doris Stewart and Gloria | 11 | | Gregor; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; | 12 | | therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 15 | | Jim Ekstrom, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | 16 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Jim Ekstrom as an expression of our | 19 | | deepest sympathy.
