| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Father | 4 | | Donald Joseph Ahearn of the Archdiocese of Chicago, who passed | 5 | | away on January
1, 2017; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Father Ahearn was
born the youngest of five | 7 | | children to Daniel and Helen Ahearn on March 1, 1925; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Father Ahearn was ordained a priest of the
| 9 | | Archdiocese of Chicago on May 3, 1951; his first assignment was
| 10 | | Saint Gertrude Parish in Franklin Park, where he served as the
| 11 | | assistant pastor for eight years; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, After being chaplain of Saint Patrick High School, | 13 | | he
served at St. Barbara Parish in Brookfield for seven
years; | 14 | | and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Father Ahearn finally found home at Saint Juliana
| 16 | | Parish on Touhy Avenue in Chicago on August 21, 1975; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, The duties of Father Ahearn while pastor of Saint | 18 | | Juliana Parish
included being a member of the Pastor Review | 19 | | Board, the School
Board Advisory Committee, and then serving as | 20 | | an Assistant Vicar for Senior
Priests; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, After serving the parish for nearly 20 years, he
| 2 | | retired on June 30, 1995; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, During his life, Father Ahearn was known for his
| 4 | | goodness, generosity, and especially his affection towards
| 5 | | people; he was quick to love and quick to befriend; therefore, | 6 | | be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 8 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 9 | | mourn the passing of Father Donald Joseph Ahearn, and extend | 10 | | our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who | 11 | | knew and loved him; and be it further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Father Ahearn as an expression of | 14 | | our deepest sympathy.
