| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Duane F. Heward of Peoria, who passed | 4 | | away on February 22, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Duane Heward was born on March 12, 1931 in | 6 | | Princeton; his parents were Ernest and Sylvena Peterson Heward; | 7 | | he married Pauline "Polly" Bayer on May 20, 1978; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Duane Heward served in the Army National Guard | 9 | | during the Korean War; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Duane Heward was a Bradley University graduate; he | 11 | | worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company as an accountant for 35 | 12 | | years until his retirement in 1991; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Duane Heward was a very active volunteer at | 14 | | Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria; he served on the board at | 15 | | the United Way, Friendship House, and the Peoria Housing | 16 | | Authority; he was a Peoria Precinct Committeeman; he was a | 17 | | founding member of Habitat for Humanity in the Peoria area; he | 18 | | and his wife were the original recipients of the Volunteer of | 19 | | the Year Award given by Counseling and Family Services, which | 20 | | has continued to be given annually as "The Duane & Polly Heward | 21 | | Volunteer of the Year Award"; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Duane Heward was a member of Glen Oak Christian | 2 | | Church, where he served as Elder and on several different | 3 | | boards; he also was an associate member of First Christian | 4 | | Church in Peoria; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Duane Heward was preceded in death by his wife, | 6 | | Pauline; his daughter, Kathleen Lemon; his brother, Harold; and | 7 | | his sister, Rozina; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Duane Heward is survived by his daughters, Doreen | 9 | | (Ken) Stachowicz, Pamela (Frank) Hanson, Rebecca "Becky" | 10 | | Chapman, and Christie (George) George; his 9 grandchildren; his | 11 | | 5 great-grandchildren; his sister, Neva (Russ) Wager; his many | 12 | | nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Shifu; therefore, be | 13 | | it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | 16 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Duane F. Heward; and | 17 | | be it further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of Duane Heward as an expression of our | 20 | | sympathy.
