| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of James "Roy" Cox of Erie, who passed away | 4 | | on February 15, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, James Cox was born in Erie to Clay and Florence | 6 | | Quade Cox on January 27, 1926; he served in the United States | 7 | | Army during World War II from 1945 to 1947; he married Arvilla | 8 | | Updyke on November 11, 1949; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, James Cox was a farmer; he also worked as an | 10 | | electrician for Heuer Electric in Erie and as a custodian for | 11 | | the Erie Community School District, from which he retired; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, James Cox was a member of Erie American Legion | 13 | | Post 582, where he previously held all of the Chairs, including | 14 | | Commander; he also held many Chairs and served as Commander of | 15 | | the American Legion 13th District from 1984 to 1985; he was a | 16 | | member of the American Legion from 1947 to 2016; he was a | 17 | | member of the Erie United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge, | 18 | | Geneseo, and he helped with the Special Olympics in | 19 | | Bloomington-Normal for many years; he enjoyed bowling; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, James Cox was preceded in death by his parents; | 21 | | his wife, Arvilla; his brother; and 3 sisters; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, James Cox is survived by his children and their | 2 | | spouses, Karna (Raymond) Wood, Terry (Kris) Cox, Lois (Mark) | 3 | | Boelens, Fay (David) Haan, and Brian (Chris) Cox; his several | 4 | | grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Jeanne | 5 | | Kay, Ava Biggs, and Anne (Jim) Johnson; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 7 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 8 | | James "Roy" Cox, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 9 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 10 | | further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of James Cox as an expression of our | 13 | | deepest sympathy.
