| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Billie "BJ" McCoy-Thomas; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Billie McCoy-Thomas served as a case manager for | 5 | | the Brother's Keeper Community Resource Center, where she | 6 | | worked under her father, Chief Apostle Dr. McCoy; while there, | 7 | | she addressed various disparities within the community, | 8 | | including homelessness, unemployment, food insecurity, and | 9 | | healthcare; she served as a social worker for the Illinois | 10 | | Department of Children and Family Services; she served as a | 11 | | qualified mental health professional for the Aunt Martha's | 12 | | Community Counseling Center of Chicago; she worked as the | 13 | | creative director of a catering company; she also worked as a | 14 | | substitute teacher, an entrepreneur, and a cheer and life | 15 | | coach; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Billie McCoy-Thomas was deeply committed to her | 17 | | faith; she was known for her principles, her fairness, her | 18 | | humor, her compassion, and her empathy; she was a lifelong | 19 | | advocate in her community and was extremely dedicated to the | 20 | | youth in underserved areas; she was affectionately known as | 21 | | "Billie-Joe" and "BJ"; she will be remembered for being a | 22 | | mother, a friend, and a confidant to many; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Billie McCoy-Thomas is survived by her parents, | 2 | | Chief Apostle Dr. William and Pastor Emeritus Rose McCoy; her | 3 | | children, DaMoyne McCoy and Niomi Thomas; her seven siblings; | 4 | | and a host of relatives and closer friends; therefore, be it
| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 6 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 7 | | Billie "BJ" McCoy-Thomas and extend our sincere condolences to | 8 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 9 | | further
