1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Nicholas
4 Thomas Balen of Wadsworth on Wednesday, April 23, 2003; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Balen was born on December 7, 1919 to John
6 and Rose Balen; he was a lifelong resident of Lake County;
7 and
8 WHEREAS, Mr. Balen valiantly served his country with
9 distinction in the U.S. Army during World War II; he was
10 retired from the U.S. Post Office and was a member of Our
11 Lady of Humility Parish; and
12 WHEREAS, Mr. Balen was active in the community as a
13 member of the Croatian Cultural Center; he was an avid golfer
14 for many years until his health no longer allowed him to play
15 the game he loved; and
16 WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Balen has been deeply felt by
17 many, especially his son, John P. "Jay" (Linda) Balen; his
18 grandchildren, Nicholas Raymond, Amanda Lynn, and Melissa
19 Anne Balen, and Amy and Wendy Carrison; his brothers,
20 Matthew, Michael, and John (Helen) Balen; his sister,
21 Rosemary (Frank) Ress; and his many nieces and nephews;
22 therefore, be it
23 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
24 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing
25 of Nicholas Thomas Balen and extend to his family, friends,
26 and all who knew and loved him, our deepest sympathy; and be
27 it further
28 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
29 presented to the family of Mr. Balen as an expression of our
30 sincere condolences during their time of bereavement.
