| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John F. "Jack" Smith of McHenry, who | 4 | | passed away on July 30, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jack Smith was born in McHenry on December 28, | 6 | | 1927 to Arthur and Laura (nee Young) Smith; he served in the | 7 | | United States Army from 1946 to 1948; he married Betty A. | 8 | | Miller at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg on | 9 | | November 26, 1953; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Jack Smith trained as a butcher and spent several | 11 | | years in the profession before entering the carpentry field; he | 12 | | spent most of his career as a carpenter, working for various | 13 | | carpentry firms in the McHenry area; he retired from Joseph | 14 | | Frett & Son Construction in 1993; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Jack Smith was a Master Rose Gardener; he enjoyed | 16 | | golfing, and was a long-time member of the McHenry Country | 17 | | Club; he also enjoyed fishing and bowling; he loved to show | 18 | | support for his grandchildren by attending their sporting | 19 | | events and school activities; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Jack Smith was preceded in death by his parents; | 21 | | his 5 brothers, Arthur, Earl, Ralph, Lester, and Bob; and a |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Jack Smith is survived by his wife of 60 years, | 3 | | Betty; 4 children, Debbie (Wade) Heisler, Sandi (Mark) | 4 | | Patterson, Jeff (Dee-Dee) Smith, and Brian (Chris) Smith; 8 | 5 | | grandchildren, Kristin (Benson) Sanford, Kimberly (Mark) | 6 | | Kunkel, Kelly, Jorden, Jeremy, Jason, Ryan, and Logan; and a | 7 | | sister, Dori Tonyan; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of | 10 | | John F. "Jack" Smith, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 11 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 12 | | further
