| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Kathryn Dooley Dunn, who passed away on | 4 | | June 18, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Kathryn Dunn was born in Chicago on October 29, | 6 | | 1927 to Dr. Harry J. and Marion E. (nee Culhane) Dooley; she | 7 | | graduated from Trinity High School in River Forest at the age | 8 | | of 16 and went on to study at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College | 9 | | in Terre Haute, Indiana and then at the University of Chicago, | 10 | | where she received a bachelor's degree in interdepartmental | 11 | | pre-medical studies; she had been committed to a life and | 12 | | career of service from an early age; she studied at Loyola | 13 | | University Chicago's Medical School as a graduate student in | 14 | | physiology and met and married fellow medical student, Paul J. | 15 | | Dunn in 1951; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Kathryn Dunn and Paul Dunn became active in the | 17 | | Christian Family Movement and served as Chairs of the Pre-Cana | 18 | | programs and on the Board of Directors of the Pre-Cana programs | 19 | | and the Cana Conference of the Archdiocese of Chicago; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Kathryn Dunn and her husband brought together a | 21 | | group of people and ultimately founded the Alcuin Montessori | 22 | | School in Oak Park in 1961, the second Montessori School in the |

| 1 | | United States and the first in the Midwest, which has now been | 2 | | operating continuously for 54 years; she was a co-founder and | 3 | | served as Vice-President of the Illinois Montessori Society and | 4 | | was a member of Alcuin's Board of Directors; she also received | 5 | | the American Montessori Society certification as a Montessori | 6 | | Directress; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, In November of 1964, Kathryn Dunn and her husband | 8 | | purchased a 260-acre working dairy farm in Ferryville, | 9 | | Wisconsin as a vacation home for their still-growing family; | 10 | | the family spent numerous summers at the farm, which the family | 11 | | still owns, and they made the farm their retirement home in | 12 | | 2004, before moving to Viroqua, Wisconsin in 2012; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Kathryn and Paul Dunn became interested in the | 14 | | Doman-Delacato method of treating brain-injured children; Paul | 15 | | founded the Chicago Center for the Achievement of Human | 16 | | Potential in 1967 with the help of Motorola CEO Paul Galvin; he | 17 | | served as the Center's Medical Director and Kathryn designed | 18 | | and directed the Center's Visual Motor Integration Program; as | 19 | | part of their work at the Chicago Center, Kathryn and Paul | 20 | | became increasingly interested in integrative, holistic | 21 | | approaches to medicine; in order to pursue these ideas in | 22 | | depth, Paul returned to private practice and, with Kathryn, | 23 | | founded the Center for Integrative Treatment and Biochemical | 24 | | Nutrition in Oak Park, one of the first such practices in |

| 1 | | Illinois; Kathryn joined the staff of the Center as a Certified | 2 | | Clinical Nutritionist; she also lectured extensively at a | 3 | | number of Midwestern colleges and universities and served as | 4 | | Vice-President of the International and American Associations | 5 | | of Clinical Nutritionists; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Kathryn Dunn was preceded in death by her husband, | 7 | | Paul; her parents; and her sister, Marian Sterling; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Kathryn Dunn is survived by her 10 children, Chris | 9 | | (Beth) Dunn, Brian (Deb) Dunn, Paul Dunn, Jr., Peter Dunn, | 10 | | Michael Dunn, Mark (Ann) Dunn, John (Alexa) Dunn, Sarah Dunn, | 11 | | Jeff Dunn, and Julie Dunn; her 9 grandchildren, Zeke Dunn, | 12 | | Molly Dunn, Kelly Barnd, Jacob Barnd, Jack Dunn, Patrick Dunn, | 13 | | Katie Dunn, Ian Dunn, and Raleigh Dunn; other relatives; and | 14 | | many friends; therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 17 | | Kathryn Dooley Dunn, and extend our sincere condolences to her | 18 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 19 | | further
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 21 | | presented to the family of Kathryn Dunn as an expression of our | 22 | | deepest sympathy.
