| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize and honor the Metropolis Hope | 4 | | Light Project Committee, the Hope Light Foundation, and the | 5 | | City of Metropolis for their combined efforts to communicate | 6 | | cancer awareness through a unique venue, The Metropolis | 7 | | Lighthouse; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Cancer claims the lives of more than 24,000 | 9 | | Illinois residents and touches the lives of hundreds of | 10 | | thousands of Illinois residents every year; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Due to the combined efforts of The Metropolis Hope | 12 | | Light Project Committee, The Hope Light Foundation, and the | 13 | | City of Metropolis, a 30-foot tall working lighthouse was | 14 | | designed and built on the banks of the Ohio River in the | 15 | | vicinity of the historical Fort Massac State Park in the City | 16 | | of Metropolis and dedicated to the fight against all cancers; | 17 | | and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, The Metropolis Lighthouse is used to navigate | 19 | | people to life-saving cancer awareness information, much like a | 20 | | real lighthouse navigates ships into safe harbors; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, The Metropolis Lighthouse stands as a symbol of |

| 1 | | hope to all those whose lives have been or will be impacted by | 2 | | cancer; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, The members of this body deeply appreciate the | 4 | | efforts of the Metropolis Hope Light Project Committee, The | 5 | | Hope Light Foundation, and the City of Metropolis to erect and | 6 | | maintain this lighthouse as the world's first and only | 7 | | lighthouse solely dedicated to the fight against cancer; | 8 | | therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 10 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 11 | | recognize The Metropolis Lighthouse as a means of communicating | 12 | | cancer awareness and promoting early cancer detection, | 13 | | diagnosis, and treatment to save lives and honor the Metropolis | 14 | | Hope Light Project Committee, the Hope Light Foundation, and | 15 | | the City of Metropolis for their work in this regard; and be it | 16 | | further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the Metropolis Hope Light Project Committee, The | 19 | | Hope Light Foundation, and the City of Metropolis as an | 20 | | expression of our deepest appreciation and honor for their | 21 | | efforts to provide a beacon of hope to the victims of cancer | 22 | | and their families, friends, and loved ones.
